Hi Single Malt fans....

I have up to £100 to spend on a single bottle, there seems to be so much to choose from at the moment, I am getting into a bit of a spin deciding what to buy and could do with some help.

The receiver (50th birthday pressie) is a huge Islay fan going by his bottle collection, but I know he likes to drink other regions as well, (he introduced me to an amazing Japanese Whiskey last time we were over) so I know he is open minded to other regions.

Have you seen anything recently worth considering?

Ta very much

Surely it should go on flavour and not budget.
A 30 quid bottle might be amazing while a 100 quid number might taste like pee*

*I don't drink alcohol so might be talking shit

My favourite whisky is at this price point. Old Pulteney 21 yo. Not as peaty as a robust Islay but a lovely salty caramel type taste. It's ace.

Tricky, sounds like he knows his whisk(e)ys...I usually recommend Japanese whisky for the scotch drinker, but seeing as he's already got that covered, how about a bourbon?

Could try for a Springbank - I would guess a 18 year old might come in about that. Or a nice Macallan..

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and was suggested Octomore.

It was however out of budget and I opted for Yamazaki in the end as I heard good things and it also won Whisky of the year.

For £100 I'd be looking at a collectors bottle, not a drinkers bottle. Scapa 12 yo pre Ricard takeover of the distillery

HPK 18 y/o is a great value dram. Macallan 18 is slightly better IMO but it's silly money.

As a friend put it the other night. "People see one bottle of whisky for £80 and think - wow that's expensive. Yet you'll happily go out on the town and between three of you spend £100 and mild beer and sugary cocktails. Why not invest in a quality bottle and taken enjoyment from that."

Yamazaki

You timed that well isto, its going for well over £150 now if you can find one 😉

Rusty, that's a good call about the bourbon, looks like I am heading that way.

Thanks for all the other ideas btw everyone.

Was given a voucher for a spend at a local off licence and picked up a bottle of Mortlach 15 yo for less than £50. Lovely, sweet with a touch of smoke
