Been looking online for a suitable pushchair for our nearly one year old granddaughter, we live pretty rural (North Portugal) with lots of cobbled streets and dirt tracks also pretty hilly. Why do 95% of pushchairs run on shopping trolly chassis?! I need to find something to suit the terrain and to be honest, even in the UK those little casters were pretty useless (from experience with Grandkids one and two) on all but the most urbanised terrain!

Other than a few 'running' buggies there's hardly anything to deal with even mild offroad and come to that, with the technology of e-bikes how come there's no adaption to child transport? especially for dual buggies. ...... or is there? I did find one, but it was just an infant pram rather than anything for year plus.

We had a 3 wheeler with 10" pneumatic tyres. It could cope with everything that we threw at it.

We had a double one too, but with it being longer the handling wasn't great.

We had a Jane push chair- that had pneumatic tyres & a basic suspension set up. Being a Spanish company should be readily available in Portugal.

What do the locals use? My nephews are Spanish- my Mum was aghast that my Sister's house had all tiled floors: "What if they fall over & bang their heads etc" until it was pointed out to her that plenty of Spanish people have lived like that for years!

Agreed, it's amazing over here, castle walls are a good example, hardly a barrier in sight Shear drops you can stand at the edge!

Rarely see kids in pushchairs out in the sticks but then again you don't see many folk full stop! It's idyllic!

Ours was a Babyjogger Summit X3. It was ace and did a lot of bridleway/footpath miles

Exactly this. We had a hand me down from a neighbor. It was incredible, could get up anything!

Out and about nipper is what we had. Less expensive than things like mountain buggy, 12 inch pneumatic tyres, robust and folds small enough to easily go in the boot of a small car.
The swivel wheel one is as easy in shops as any pushchair. For full off road the fixed front wheel ones are great. We had an ancient one with 16 inch wheels that was incredible for walks as a second pushchair. Often easier than the kiddy backpack unless on really steep terrain.
Should be plenty second hand too.

+1 for the out n about nipper.

With 3 children we went through about 9 pushchairs looking for that moon on a stick moment. We stopped when we got to the out n about. It just works. Front swivel wheel also locks straight for really rough stuff so it doesn't spin round and get stuck in ruts etc.
It's also available in a double, but next to each other instead of longways. A bit tricky in smaller shops but easy to push one handed and the 12 inch wheels make it so easy to manoeuvre.

They're both commonly available 2nd hand in the UK. Not so sure about Portugal though.

Forgot to say, ours was a 3 wheeler. I was quite sceptical of 3 wheels when we got it, but it was far better off road than 4 wheelers.
