I’ve been doing some work around the garden and have an area that I’d like to plant about 400 daffodil bulbs & tulips then turf over the top. I know I’ve missed the ideal months to plant these but what would happen if I planted them anyway? Would they just flower next year?

Cheers

Wouldn't have thought you can buy bulbs at the moment? Wait till Sept/oct.

Thats been my experience.

However, you won't be able to cut the grass. Thats alot of money you'll spend on turfing for it to be ruined in one year as you have to let it run away with itself.

My wife is obsessed with bulbs. I've done quite a bit of landscaping and whenever I find some they need to be saved a replanted. We do this any time of year and it doesn't seem to matter. I believe if you do get it wrong they will grow but not flower the first year.

So turns out they’re sold out / out of season everywhere so that’s my plan scuppered!

I’ll wait until autumn

If you know anybody with a bug clump of daffodils, now that they have finished is a good time to dig them up and separate them. Spread out the ones you dig up leaving some in place and taking some.
