Well, I'm putting this down to the different scales at home and at work, but I appear to now weigh 94kg/14st 11lb/207lb. An 11lb loss, which is nice.

257.4lb down to 248.6lb. That's my first month target smashed already, I'm off out tonight to eat some celebratory Greek food.

^^ congrats, some good numbers above too

177 to 175 which was end-Jan target, went up to 179 at one point 😳 will try and keep going past original target

Cut out the easy stuff, in last 2 weeks 2 small beers vs typical 2-3 bottles of wine, attention to portion control, more to do there esp rice/pasta. Walking more, 3 30min physio sessions so a bit more excersize. Much more to do there. Flab vs muscle quite bothersome

Down 5 lbs. First week was great... No booze and 120 miles on the bike. This week down to 62 miles so far as weather has been rubbish.

Not really altered food intake at all yet. Yesterday bit of a bad day... Couple beers and bottle of red over the afternoon for a leaving do. Followed by 2 huge bacon sandwiches (yum) and bowl of whetabix (don't ask I had booze munchies).

Definately felt bloated this morning 🙁

Any ideas if alcohol makes you retain water and if so why? I thought it dehydrates you. Will try a weigh in in the morning out of interest just to see if there is any significant drop from today.

I'm down to 16st 7lbs (from 17st) which is great apart from the fact I lost that in a week and then only just about managed to not it put it back on this week...

It was my birthday though so that's my excuse 😳

Ridden to work a few times this week and might have a someone to commute with as of next week who is a real inspiration to stop being so pathetic and ride my bike more! (He only has use of one arm and is still a far better rider than me...)

@don alcohol generally packed with calories esp beer ( 🙁 ) water retention ? Don't think so other than encouraging you to drink more after a hangover.

Alcohols a diuretic, hence why you have a raging thirst the next day despite drinking pints the night before.

It's also fattening and inhibits muscle repair so a post ride couple of pints could actually leave you tubbier and with less muscle than if you'd just sat in front of the TV.

@ jamb ta. Yeah I know I probably consumed 1000 empty calories yesterday (600 ish for the bottle red and another 400 for the two pints). Plus another 1000 for my double bacon and cheese sandwiches ontop of normal food.

Just woke up this morning feeling really puffy round neck and face. Guess that's the booze for you (and carb loading late in the day).

Always piss like a racehorse day after heavy session so was just wondering if any science behind the bloating feeling......or just a case of overindulgence.

Tinas - just seen post. Makes sense. Ta

Feeling quite smug this morning. Didn't drink during the day yesterday so managing an hour at sweet spot on the turbo last night. Admittedly I did follow it with 2 pints but I'm happy with that.
Then got up this morning, rode 5 miles to my local Parkrun where I ran a PB for 5k and my pace averages were high too. Then rode home in the pouring rain feeling very pleased.
Bacon sarny soon and then beers later. May even sneak another turbo session in.

Lost 4lbs - down from 203 to 199.

A group have us have thrown a tenner into a pot and we each have to do 1 activity every day (1 mile run / 2 mile walk / 5 mile ride). Fail to do an activity and your out. Last man standing is the winner and takes the pot.

Its been a really good incentive to be active on days when looking out of the window there was little likelihood of peeling back the duvet!

'Diet' has consisted of cutting out most snacks and relatively little alcohol but nothing special in terms of food or portion sizes.

Good luck everyone!

Regarding my post up there a bit ^ so I did weigh myself this morning 24 hrs after last weigh in. Same time... Pre poo. 3 lbs lighter* than 24hrs previous. Interesting as I know bodyweight fluctuates but did not expect 3 lbs.

* weight measured on digital and mechanical scales. Readings identical.

This is the first time in 36 years I have actually paid any attention to the scales as generally I try to diet a bit when my jeans / trousers start to feel snug.

From 188 to 187 lbs in 2 weeks 🙄

Mind you, I haven't been trying. Had a Chomp for breakfast the other day 😀

This is the wake-up call to stop messing about and do it properly.

Can we get a link to the spreadsheet? I'd like to see how everyone else is doing. I don't think privacy is too much of an issue. We're all just usernames anyway.

PS JonV thanks very much for running this and doing the work.

I feel like todays antics are going give my weight loss a boost!

Starved MTB ride this morning, got home, not food in. Bugger.

So set off to my parents for dinner as we agreed a few days ago. Not in, forgot. Bugger.

Stopped by a mates garage for a chat. Spent 4 hours stripping a motorbike down while chatting and drinking tea. Still no food. Bugger.

Just got in and have some chips and chicken burger in the oven, to be eaten with thin granary bread (cut round to be burger shaped), lettuce and extra light mayo. I can't describe how much I'm looking forward to this food!

You're not wrong Jammers! I remember watching in awe at the KFC in Salford Precinct as two of the larger proportioned local ladies walked in, ordered a family bucket each, and proceeded to chomp their way through the lot 😯

But this is what I managed to resist the urge for today. Quite modest by comparison...

I've not had a great day but oddly I'm hardly over the calorie limit I set myself. Probably because dinner was mostly a load of left over veg and beer.

Binge mode here! Breakfast - poached eggs & toast. Lunch - lentil soup.

Dinner - Lasagne, salad, coleslaw, garlic bread, 3/4 bottle red wine, galaxy caramel, 1/2 a brownie, 2 quality street....so far. Hmmmm. Lucky next weigh in is 2 weeks time!

Quite happy with myself as went out tonight with the good lady to celebrate her friend's birthday, and we both stayed on the waggon and within our diet plans. Didn't actually miss the booze to be totally honest.

@ jambalaya, I'm not your friend anymore! 😛

Your right, not much point but its a bit off and the bits all add up by the end of the week.

Plus if you add light mayo to something its automatically a healthy meal. Like having diet coke with MacDonald's, right? 😛

any more for this week (fortnight) weigh in?

By my reckoning there are 4 missing. Notwithstanding that - 335lbs lost = 24stone and collectively we're 66% of the way to our January target.

I can't believe I feel guilty for eating a few hobnobs earlier. I'd eat a whole packet in a sitting 3 weeks ago. Not even worry about it.

Anyway, well done everyone. That's the easy bit out the way. Now it gets harder....

Ok but not great weekend for me.
Saturday started well, ate well, park run, bike ride, all good. Then lots of beer and crisps.
Sunday, hangover, danger. Good breakfast (omelette with ham), but been grazing all day, got through a share bag of kettle chips and 2 huge sarnies. Going to do an hour in the turbo now before I attack the pork joint that's been in the slow cooker all day.

On the upside, my lunches for the week are made and I'm determined to kick on.

I've signed on for the Rioja diet, where participants get 90% of their cals from wine.

my MiL's has one of those motivation saying plank things in her house along those lines:

"I'm on the gin diet, every time I eat something I have a G&T with it. I've lost four days already"

Boiled eggs and sour dough for brekkie then a huge Sunday lunch. Only one Yorkshire Pud and 3 roasties though, so that's progress.

Just went for my first run in 10 years. Took my seven year old with me for our first run together ever - it was the most epic two miles I've ever done 🙂

Big stinking Rioja while sitting on the sofa now...

I've got until Weds to be a good boy as I'm off to Madrid on Thursday for work for a couple of nights. I can control the booze but not what/where I'm eating as it's all laid on.

I do need to get a bit smarter with food though. Few carbs during the day meant I blew up spectacularly on the turbo tonight after my first 20 min effort. On low-carb days it's clear I need to have some porridge or a banana or something before exercise if I'm working to a plan rather than just riding.

Was pleased with weigh in on Friday. Down 6lbs from starting weight.

Have generally been good - slight reduction on portion size, no alcohol at all (through Oct, nov and dec consumption had crept up significantly) - and although I am missing it, am going to stick to at least end Jan.

Trying to eat less sugar, and more healthy when I snack.

Biking wise I went out for 2 hours on the road bike in the pouring rain - without this club for motivation I would have bailed given the conditions.

But daughter's birthday on the weekend - so out for a couple of meals - tried to stick to healthy!!! But absolutely back on the health kick now!

Well done everyone.

I’m down 9lb in two weeks, 11Ib since New Years Day despite been on hols for the first week of Jan. I’ve been pretty strict cut out carbs except before and after serious training runs and keeping the calories per day pretty low 1300-1500ish except on tough days. I’m still 7lb heavier than when I pulled my back on the 1st November, I’m now aiming to be there or thereabouts by end of Jan. I’m training pretty hard as I’m planning to do the three peaks fell race in April and the Ironman in July, I want to lose the weight now as I find it gets harder as the long runs and rides really kick in.

Weight on the New Years day 14st 4lb weight today 13st 7lb.

Training week 1 – 4 runs all in the hills 26 miles + 2 hour bike ride

Training weeks 2 - 4 runs 33 miles, 1 ½ spinning, 1 ½ freestyle swimming + 30 minutes pilates

For porridge that's not a bad call... although if I'm feeling lazy I tend to do it overnight in the fridge (google overnight oatmeal).

What do people do for lo-carb Lunch?

I am really lazy the night before work and just normally make a sandwich...

Suppose some kind of salad would be the obvious choice with some chicken or something.

Can't do soup with no bread, it's just not right.

Just have a sandwich. Sandwiches aren't bad. Carbs aren't bad. Too many sandwiches/carbs are bad.

FWIW, I'm losing weight and I have a sandwich (brown bread, healthy-ish filling) and apple for my lunch. I buy the sandwich, cos

and I definitely can't be ar$sed with fannying about with

There's a huge temptation to overcomplicate all this. If you want it to stick, apply the KISS principle

Salad. Load of tomato, shredded cabbage, spinach. Then top with some egg, some feta and the smallest amount of dressing you can live with. I also like a bit of meat with it for some extra protein (last week it was smoked chicken for example). As I said though, my low-carb eating seems to cause me issues with hard riding over a short period (Sufferfest for example, on the turbo).

More generally a good breakfast is helping a lot. Last week and over the weekend I've been having two-egg omelettes with avocado and that seems to get me to lunch fine. Weetabix (my all-time favourite cereal), not so much. Maybe I need to eat 3 shredded wheat.

Lunch was peas, sweetcorn, dwarf beans, cold boiled rice, 30g chedder chopped into cubes, mushrooms, cashew nuts (qt 14, as per Slimming World's Healthy B 🙂 ), lettuce and two hard boiled eggs all sliced up and mixed in. No dressing, and really tasty. 🙂

I think it becomes two half panino. An orange doesn't become two oranges or two half oranges (that's confusing grammar) when sliced in half after all, does it?

It doesn't become 'two half orange' either, so, 'two halves of a panino' must be the correct answer.

well that's a different question. I suppose, given the nature and non specific completeness of a cappuccino other than the fullness of the cup, you could easily argue that a cappuccino poured into two cups is two cappuccini. Except at this time of day when clearly no discerning STWian would be drinking a cappuccino.

Oh it works as a mental trick. My usual bread used to be that Warburton's seeded stuff. Now I get the smaller 400g loaf. My brain knows it's smaller, and you can fit less in there, but it's still 1 sandwich.

Forgive me Chub Club, for I have sinned.

A friend came round for dinner last night, and I had quite a few pre-dinner crispey nibbles, my wife's delicious homemade lasagne and garlic bread (and salad 🙂 ), followed by quite a large slice of raspberry pavlova. And the best part of a bottle of wine (this morning's consequence of which is that I skipped the intended session on the rollers).

I'm a bad man 😥
