You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Come on TOJV, nearly there!!! 😀
Daft Vader - bizarrely, I found it easier to diet without exercise to start with. Now I chose a pretty hardcore method, but exercise was making me want to eat more.
Now off for an 80k road ride before the rain hits!!
My weight has been stuck where it is for a few weeks now. This was my "normal weight" all of last year, up until Christmas when I went daft.
So in effect I haven't lost as such, just returned to normal by stopping over-eating.
Now the hard work of actually losing something starts and I'm not sure how I'm going to do that.
Pretty static right now which I'm very happy with. Had 2 weeks off work eating lots then the first week in a new job where I've had far too many lunch meetings. Next week I will push on again, want to be below 80kg by June and have a few new things to try to get there.
There are positives every week though, 5k time is getting closer to 20 mins by the week with a target of sub 20 by the end of May. Exercise is now a habit that is wasn't before, 6 days per week, no excuses and doing an extra session to help offset bad food or drink occasionally is now my normal. I can see my body changing too, 6 months ago I was unfit and wearingsuits with a 44" chest and 38" trousers, yesterday I bought a new suit, 38" chest, 34" trousers. And finally, for the first time in my adult life, I've got a body that I'm pretty happy with, yes, there are a few things I'd change and am working to do that, but overall, I'm doing ok. Plus my wife says I look "fit" which is always nice to hear!
Big love to Jon again for organising.
Dantsw, I've been off the bike and any meaningful excersize for 2+ years due to illness. I know once I get back into it the weight will melt off. Plus I know what foods to eat post ride to keep things even.... and it'll mean I'm off the beer more!
Will weigh in tomorrow morning. Just back from a week in France trying to eat bread with everything.
I've been a bit quiet on here, so though I'd join back in properly.
Well done to everyone still going (the total amount lost is huge!), and thanks as ever to Jon for keeping on top of it all. 😀
Had a slow and tough few weeks after doing some races, just managed 1/2 a lbs down at the last weigh in, which seemed to take a lot of work, and now I've put that 1/2 lbs back on!
Two weeks before Easter me and the mrs had a week off work - I rode a lot (several short 2/3 hour rides, did my first 100km ride in about 8 years, followed two days later by a 70km off road epic). I ate a bit more than usual to recover from the rides, but not massively. Lost nothing and did a knee in!
Last week was terrible for commuting - sore knee, sore back, sore attitude from being back at work, tired, started comfort eating a bit.
I think training for races and trying to increase the length and speed of my rides while dieting has pushed me a bit too far, so I decided I needed a break and to re-focus...
Easter weekend isn't a great for weight loss anyway... various big meals, too much chocolate to ignore (for me anyway!) and some drinking too. I did try and restrain myself but as ever ate a lot of chocolate and sweets, so 1/2 a lbs on isn't bad I guess, and hopefully it'll come back off quick!
Was nice to have 4 days break from riding and weight loss, but need to get back on it now I'm rested. I've got 25 lbs to shift in about 10 weeks. 😯 If anyone can spare any motivation, please send it my way! 😀
Low Carb, Low Carb, Low Carb...................!!!!!!!
Then plenty of slow steady riding burning your body fat for fuel!! Theres more calories there than in any energy bar if you can access them.
I lost 34lbs (I think) in 8 weeks, so you have loads of time 😀
Sent this weeks 'belated' weigh in
Nothing lost or gained which I'll take as a result seen as I'd been eating like a pig and drinking like a fish on holiday 😀
I haven't stepped on the scales since the four day break, but if i haven't put weight on, there is a leak in my foot, as it's been four days of beer, chocolate, yummy family meals and snacking. But hey, it's once a year.
Been back on plan today, so will hold off having an unofficial cheeky weigh in until then I'm the hope the figures look better.
Cheeky weigh yesterday and I've managed to lose Judy over a pound somehow, so just under two to target. Hoping to hit that next week then it's maintenance time....
Carb loading - London Marathon Tomorrow 😯
Done!
Back home now and lost 2lbs
Good man - how did it go? Time?
I saw one of the BBC interviews 'on the run' on Tower Bridge with a bloke doing his 100th marathon. It was his birthday too. 80 😯
It made me think I ought to do one before I'm too old, otherwise I'll never have ticked that box. I'm 48 in 3 weeks time so I'm thinking for my 50th, maybe Brighton. 2 years should be enough, yes?
3:58 so really pleased 🙂
Ticked it off after a long time trying to do it
I'd like to do a marathon one day, after a few 1/2s. Now I'm lighter it's more achievable without damaging my knees.
Down a lb this week after a monster road ride in San Francisco - 112km & 7500' of climbing!!
Weigh in day today, you chubber thinsters! Usual format, STW name and weight in lbs, eg theotherjonv 195lbs
Thanks Dantsw13 for the motivational talk.
195lbs = 13:13; broken that barrier after plateauing for weeks at just over 14
I am going in the other direction at the moment.... 🙁
mails sent but copy and paste on here too for part of it:
There are a substantial number of people who no longer send weights in. I've split the table now so if you haven't sent a weight for the last 2 times (which is a month in time terms) then I'm assuming you aren't playing any more. I did say i wouldn't delete anyone for non-reporting, but much like Mrs May that was a lie.
If you don't want to be in any more please send me an email with cancel or leave or something instead of your weight and I'll remove you - eg: theotherjonv leave
EQUALLY - if you don't send me a result for 3 consecutive weigh ins, then you'll be deleted automatically. For no other reason than there are 24 people whose addresses I have to type in every time I send an email out and who don't appear to be involved any more and I could be spending the time self pleasuring instead.
After missing the previous weigh in due to Easter camping and drinking, back on it this week; 85.4kg/188.3lbs
Seems that I'm now hovering around 85kg without much effort. If I'm good for a week, it's a bit under, if I'm not it's a bit over.
Can we have a link to the spreadsheet again please? I've been through 10 pages of the thread and can't find it...
I'll email it to you, some people didn't want it public
225 , so back where I was first month. Usual excuses, work insanity and holiday which was more rehab than anything else. Meh!
After flatlining (or fat-lining?) for a few weeks, I've made an extra effort for the last couple of weeks. Actually going to the gym when the weather has been less than motivational to get out on the bike. Me in a gym is like sighting a polar bear in the sahara!
I'm just a smidge off a stone lighter than I was when I started.Slow but steady. I'm off to buy my wedding outfit this afternoon, as mrs Binners has been daft enough to agree to officially become Mrs Binners in June. 😀
Feeling good, and notably thinner than I was, and all the weight seems to have come off what was becoming my substantial 'Stella Baby'. Result! I reckon I've permanently changed my eating habits. Can you hear that wailing noise? Thats the shareholders of Greggs weeping
Cheers for the motivation, you lot! And big thanks to Jon for continuing to do this.
Brilliant news binners - the wedding that is. Congratulations.
Forgot to weigh myself this moring, will cheat and fast a bit today orherwise I'll be up 😐
My first bike ride in 6 months is going to be the qecp day/night enduro .... we all know its about the taking part and not the time right 😉
I'm off to buy my wedding outfit this afternoon, as mrs Binners has been daft enough to agree to officially become Mrs Binners in June.
Congratulations to Binners! Commiserations to Greggs! 😛
2 lbs off over the last two weeks. I'm still super critical of my food at meal times and eat well, but seem to be randomly snacking a bit more. I'm happy with that for a long term way of eating (and I'm sure I could happily eat that way forever now), but would like to diet better until I'm under 14 stone. Need to try a bit harder, but still happy with 2 lbs off. 🙂
congrats on both counts binners
Congratulations Binners 🙂 - I'm still hoping that the extra padding I have acquired in the 9 months since getting married is actually a real food baby and that I'll be 9lbs lighter come next weigh in
Cheers for the link jonv. I'd forgotten that my end of June target was quite so 'aspirational'...
Well done Binners.
I'm well and truly stuck. Been just over 13st for about 6 weeks now. The bonus is my fitness is much improved. I've got a 100 mile charity ride this Sunday and a tough muddier next weekend so hoping I can make a dent in it then and kick start a return to some losses.
Nice one JonV on the sub-14st - knew you'd get there! I see that now as a "never again" weight. I'm still slowly dropping, but certainly getting fitter.
Binners - congrats on the weight & wedding! Looking back at me in pictures from an amazing holiday last year, seeing "Fat Dan" spoils the memories of a great trip. Looking good in the wedding photos you'll keep for life is so worth it. Photos required on here!
I think it's time for some more before/after shots from the other chub club (ex)heavyweights!
Finally dropped after plateauing and even increasing after Easters hot cross buns. I had started to think my revised June target was a bit optimistic, but after a good week I'm finally under the original June target.
Although I'm only down a bit compared to the last weigh in, I had increased after it (Easter). Didn't have much chocolate, must have been the carbs in the buns.
What I struggle with are weeks where you've eaten carefully and barely loose. It's very motivational to be careful with food when you see results. As long as I get a few more weeks like the last, hopefully I'll loose the 8lbs in 9 weeks for the final target.
Thanks again to Jonv and the other chubbers, this has been keeping me going. I had known I was fat but didn't have a spur to sort it until this happened.
2 pounds off, slowing but not stopping which is to be expected. Slowly settling into a new job which means a semblance of normality has returned to both routine and diet.
More focus on performance in the coming weeks, 5k time is coming down, resting heart rate is now below 50bpm and each week I feel fitter than I was the week before. Frankly, I'm loving life.
One pound to go! Very happy; added some weight training into the mix in the hope of strengthening my core a bit.
All my nice clothes fit me now. Yay!!
Up 1lb, definitely plateued but am not surprised as I haven't changed anything really, ie no excersize and eating same. Probably should be happy as drinking a bit more last 2 weeks. Need to kick on / myself up the arse really 😐
So, trying in some clothes today, some running tops, I now need a medium and I could have got away with a small in vests as I don't need the arm length. I'm 6'4" FFS, it's a very odd experience not instinctively reaching for L or XL tops.
Anyway, I spotted my arms in the mirror. I'd joked with my wife that Chris Froome was my body idol, I have a horrible feeling I may have reached that point. I'm not sure whether I should be happy or not...
I know what you mean lunge - the realisation that being thinner/fitter doesn't automatically give you a male supermodel body!!
Indeed, my better half commented that my arms look a bit spindly. 🙂
OP can you delete my data from your spreadsheet please. Reason as per your post below
I can take other views but you just make stuff up.
It would be my pleasure.
Heh. Pounds and flounces.
Is it too late to join in somehow? Sorry not read the whole thread to find out the answer if someone has asked already 🙂
Take Jambalayas place
if you think it can help you, although we're only running for another 6 weeks (end June)
Just need to know your current weight in lbs and a target for 30/6. email in profile.
6 weeks! Oh crap...
maybe 7.....
If you're 'Oh Crap!' then what are the rest of us?
Already there? 😀
there'll soon be a blackmarket in excess weight loss, can you sell me a few lbs to get me back on target?
So you pay me to eat 10 Eccles cakes??? I'm in!
I'm loosing 1lb a week at the min... Not great to hit my 200lb target!
Interestingly, yesterday I found a weight tracker spreadsheet on my OneDrive from the start of 2016... I was 281 LBS back then! lost 3 then gave up tracking it.
Can we do a post 30/6 to end of year. Just spotted this
No-one's stopping you. But I won't be. After chasing 60 people every 2 weeks and transferring their data onto a spreadsheet, I'm looking forward to the final tally up and then retiring.
If you don't want to be in any more please send me an email with cancel or leave or something instead of your weight and I'll remove you - eg: theotherjonv leave
Sorry, only just seen this. Have emailed to drop out. Got too much on my plate, hoho, to keep this up at the mo.
Right you lot; weigh in day, usual format of stwname and weight in lbs
theotherjonv 194
7 weeks to go, which at 1-2lbs per week is 1/2 - 1 stone potential still. Are you on track, still plateauing? Need to change the game slightly to restart; there'll be plenty of advice on here if you ask for it.
email will be sent shortly..... and as per the last one, those that have either asked to be removed, or who haven't sent me a weight for 4 weigh ins now (best part of 2 months) have been removed.
That said, there are still 45 on the wagon, so let's not lose any more now!!
Loving your work Jon. Mine will be with you early tomorrow I think and it won't be pretty. Still not settled into my new job and I just know the scales will say as much.
Hit another plateau. But I take some solace in the fact that not once has weight gone up 🙂
Unlikely to hit target, but the motivation from here is great.
I've dropped a size in clothes, faster on the bike. So this is good.
Best wishes to those still sticking with it.
TOJV - you'll get my email update this evening
Sub 100kg now, just, at 99.8kg!
Think hitting 90kg in 7 weeks is very optimistic, but I'll leave the target as it is - sub 90kg is still the end goal, however long it takes.
Thanks again to Jonv for keeping us on track!
Well, this morning's weigh-in was a disappointing if not surprising, 86kg. That's after a week of drinking on a trip to Madrid, so no great surprise. Have to get back on it with some vigour if I want to get to my 82.5kg target.
203 lbs
Fallen off the wagon somewhat in recent weeks, mainly down to nervous snacking whilst awaiting the arrival of FlyingOx Jr MK2. He's here now, so bar a couple of head-wetting sessions I can get back to normal. A lot of laziness to undo to do before end of June though.
Well done to those who've kept at it. There is a seriously impressive amount of chub gone over the past few months.
Strava KOMs should be tumbling now with all this increased fitness!! I can't believe it's been 5 months. I really do feel I've settled into a maintenance routine now, and permanently changed my eating habits and perceptions. More importantly my wife has too. I think it's much easier when you both buy into it.
Won't get my weight emailed till tomorrow; but I'm expecting to have put on a couple of lbs.
Down 2.8lbs from last weigh in so have 7 weeks to loose 6lbs. Hopefully should do it. After plateauing for abit in April glad to see it drop again.
Should I miss the target, some consolation June was revised down- I have beaten my original June target.
Just mailed mine in - up 3lbs!!!!! Best get back on it. I have been slacking to be fair, so I know what I need to do.
So having lost my way a bit (a LOT) for a couple of months, definitely back in the game now. Eating (more) healthily and exercising more works funnily enough folks!
Anyway... just have to share this as I'm grinning from ear to ear... Was 178lb at weigh in Friday morning, just weighed myself this morning after destroying myself on the Wild Boar Chase full route yesterday (don't worry I've eaten and drank loads to replenish since) and I'm down at 175lb now! Another 3lb lost in a long weekend of eating relatively healthily and doing some very strenuous exercise!
Just gotta keep that up, lost 12lb now just got 7 more to go (albeit I should have lost that 7lb already). 😀
Right people time for a last push to the finish line!!
Firstly muchos thanks to JV! It must be a proper ballache emailing people and running that spreadsheet so here goes:
Thankyou sir, doing this has helped me shift a fair chunk of weight, it's helped me keep it going when I may have quit. It's making me still push to get rid of this last bit and maybe, just maybe have a 'Normal' BMI for the first time in about 15 years.....
😀
Six weeks(4 weigh ins).... .& 19LBS to go (= Normal BMI).... Big ask but I'll get shut of some of it..
Was 178lb at weigh in Friday morning, just weighed myself this morning after destroying myself on the Wild Boar Chase full route yesterday (don't worry I've eaten and drank loads to replenish since) and I'm down at 175lb now!
Without wishing to piss on your chips, some of the 3lb will be residual dehydration from yesterday. But, only some of it, so go you! 🙂
Been going up and down the past few weeks, I put on 2-3lbs and then lose it, only to repeat for the following 2 weeks. I just cant seem to get back into the flow and I'm so close to breaking into the 11 stones.
Final 6 weeks and I aim to lose 6lbs as a minimum. Going to start running again as not run since my marathon last month and make a huge effort to think before eating, at the moment I seem to think after I have finished and regret it.
Big thanks to JV, you have done a grand job!
^^Second that!^^
Going to start running again
I've not run since London Marathon, need to but not sure I want to....might just say 10k per week to keep it up.
Enjoying the bike again...
Started well but have put 2.5kg on in the last 3 weeks. Diet of cake and beer not helping 🙁
Need to sort out.
Thought it was about time I poked my head back up.
I had a really rough few weeks. The missus and I have been trying for a kid for a while now but no success. A few tests later and we have been given less than a 1% chance of conceiving naturally due to both of us having fertility issues. My reasons aren't clear but the specialist thinks 20ish stone sat on my balls for hours at a time cycling probably hasn't helped! As a result I had an enforced 4 weeks off the bike to see if things improved but it didn't.
Shortly after this news my Dad had a heart attack, closely followed by Mum having a fall trying to put the bins out and essentially destroying her shoulder so I've been looking after them also.
Happily they are both OK now, the missus and I have some options we are exploring and all has been getting back to normal over the past couple of weeks. Moved into our new house at the start of May.
I had my first ride out and promptly did this:

Smacking my knee into a rock and promptly putting myself back off the bike for a couple of weeks. Wish i'd taken the advice in the recent knee pad grouptest in the mag now!
However, I've managed to resume training in the last week. My last weigh in was pretty good and i think i'm back on course for the end of June.
Yesterday I completed my first triathlon. When i sighned up my target was not to come last. My final result: 149th out of 257 starters!

I failed to keep up with this since the first few weeks (partially down to the breakdown of my relationship/becoming a single dad) but the last month or so I've been trying hard to keep my diet under control and I am down about a stone so happy with that. Still plenty to lose still
I had my first ride out and promptly did this
Jeez, that must have been a big stack, it's taken off one half of your forks 😉
Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time fella, glad to hear things are starting to turn round. Gizza shout if you fancy a pedal out.
Well done on the Tri Kieran!!
Without wishing to piss on your chips, some of the 3lb will be residual dehydration from yesterday. But, only some of it, so go you!
Well I'm gonna piss on your chips... 😛
Was 12st7lb the next morning too, then on Friday last week was 12st6lb.
This morning I weighed myself and 12st5lb! BOOM... Lost a stone! OK so I'm a bit behind my target, but considering I was VERY late to the party on here for various reasons I'm quite happy for now.
I tell you one thing though... I'm constantly bloody hungry!!!
I'm constantly bloody hungry!!!
Do you want one of my chips? 😉
I rode 190 km on Saturday, and am 2lbs lighter this week too!! I'm feeling a bit hungry today and about to go shopping too, which is bad!!
