Ok, time to get serious.
The knee I twisted badly trampolining with the kids is pretty much pain free again. The last of the Xmas goodies have departed so time to crack on. MFP from tomorrow, & I've gone & built one of these Fat bikes for a laugh. Singlespeed too. 😕 So that needs riding.
Should be fun.

An Ok but not great weekend.
Cheat meal Friday night which was fine and in my eyes, encouraged.
Good run Saturday then just grazed on food all day. Only 1 small bottle of beer though.
Similar story Sunday, bike ride, turbo smash up but not great on the food front.

Time to work hard for the week and see where it leaves me on Friday.

My plan was the "slow & steady" approach, and I'm certainly taking it slowly!

Never mind - if it come off and stays off I'll be happy.

I'm not exercising much at the moment, so all my loss is due to smaller portions and less biscuits/cakes/sweets.

Hmm.

Only 1.2lbs loss this week, and been eating really well apart from one blip over the weekend.

Guess that's the initial water weight drop over with, and now it gets harder 😀

Friends wedding over the weekend, so a weekend of long car journeys, hotel dinners, booze and breakfasts. I can barely move!

I am here as the bearer of interesting news following Jamie's reference to Quavers as diet crisps. According to Mrs Binners weight watchers app, other acceptable ones are French fries, and these beauties, massive multipacks of which are presently on offer in Morrisons....

You're welcome 😀

You can tell things have changed. Tomorrow night the wife is out, 6 months ago this would have been an excuse for a beer and a burger. Now my first thought is that I can do a good long turbo session without being interrupted.

I don't knows what's happened to me...

I'm Binlidski on MFP, and I've joined the group.

I''a terrible for crisps usually as I don't eat anything sweet. But in a totally uncharacteristic attack of willpower have only had 2 packs since new year. Of French fries. As a rule that'd normally be lunchtime!

Things are definitely headed in the right direction, need a link taken out my watch strap!

Actually having veg with dinner and not missing the booze too much.

Static here, disappointingly. The wood burner is just too warm for evening bike rides to materialise, tried turbo, hated it. End up stuck indoors watching crap tv bored and eating crap. Riding lots and eating quite well on weekends, goes to shit in the week with work and bought lunches.

On the healthy-ish snacks tip.

11kcal each and a quid for a box of 40. Work well, if habit requires one to shove stuff in one's cakehole.

Not for our gluten/carb free brothers and sisters, tho.

The yoga is boring

@gerti ime the secret to that is to work on the breathing aspects (long and slowish, pushing diaphram up/stomach in on the outbreath and slow extra stretch). I find this empties your mind, you think only of your body and it's all very refreshing.

Glad that I made it to the 2 month target (-4kg) already and weighed in at 99.9 this morning. As now I'm working in NY this week, surgery next and then probably 2-3 weeks not allowed to ride. So I'm guessing this is where the wheels fall off...

Usual dinner coming up -

1 wholemeal wrap.
50g of spicy chicken.
some lettuice.
a spoon of light coleslaw.
a small spoon of mint raita.

304 kcal.

Friday night treats are becoming the main focus point of the week now!

they are a bit bland but high protein so keep you fuller longer.

A dust with chilli flakes makes them a nice snack (albeit a bit more pricey than a bag of Monster Munch)

With pasta, get the sauce nice and spicy too - nomnomnom. Gives me a lunch idea, in fact......

Jamie - Mrs Binners has just informed me that you can get the chilli marinated squid rings that are absolutely lovely and are in the 3 packs for 7 quid offer at M&S.

In other midlife crisis/might as well spank some cash if it'll make me move more news, I just took delivery of these beauties this afternoon. Me and the Binnerettes are off skating tomorrow night, and planning another session on Friday. Should help get the timber off. Its pretty knackering, but about 7,5069,000 times more fun than being in a gym, and a couple of hours of exercise fly by. Like being out on the bike but without the freezing fog, axle deep filth, and darkness....

Sadaf Farooqi on what makes us fat
The Life Scientific

Is it true that some people put on weight more easily than others? And if so why? It's a question that's close to many of our hearts. And it's a question that medical researcher, Professor Sadaf Farooqi is trying to answer. In 1997, Sadaf noticed that two children she was studying lacked the hormone leptin. From there, she went on to discover the first single gene defect that causes obesity. For most us, how much we eat is within our control. But for children with this rare inherited condition and, it turned out, several other rare genetic disorders, the evidence is clear. A voracious appetite is not a lifestyle choice: it's a biological response to brains signalling starvation. Sadaf tells Jim how she discovered ten rare genetic disorders that cause severe childhood obesity and what this means for the rest of us.

A cheeky weigh this morning see me just half a pound down on my last official result, so not very impressive. However, illness has meant exercise has been a no no so I'm happy with that at the moment. In anticipation of the Dr giving me the OK tomorrow (I'm psychic 😀 ) I had a quick blast on the turbo trainer tonight and feel OK so will crack on with the exercise and hopefully drop a pound or so by Friday.

Half an hour on the rollers this morning, 10* 30secs on, 60secs off intervals. And I didn't even fall off this time 🙂

Went to the pub last night and drank fresh orange and soda. IN A PUB.

I'll be out for an hour and a half or so's ride tomorrow night, hopefully all will bode well for Weigh In Friday.

Well, depends how much orange, but there is 45-ish calories in fresh orange per 100ml, and around the same in beer.

3/1-ish soda water to orange.

18lbs! Chuffffffin-ell! Well done!

Been thinking to myself this morning after I was going for a PB up a climb while commuting to work (I was really tonking along but didn't even get the PB!), how much faster will I be once I'm 20/30/40 lbs lighter?* 🙂 Will be flying by then hopefully! And hopefully just in time for summer.

(* I'm sure there's some kind of equation to work this out...)

Slightly worried about over-training at the moment. Current programme is:
Monday - 4 mile run at lunch.
Tuesday - 45 minute sweet spot session on the turbo.
Wednesday - 4 miles run at lunch.
Thursday - 20 minute threshold session then 15 mins of intervals on the turbo.
Friday - Rest.
Saturday - Parkrun, either cycle there and back (4 miles each way) or get a lift there and run back.
Sunday - Bike ride, 2 hours minimum on the road bike. 20 mins on the turbo in the evening if I feel OK and/or am bored.

Runs are at around 7:15 mins per mile pace though I'm trying to get that down. Turbo sessions are done hard too.

Food wise I'm pretty much on the buzzer, no issues there bar a touch too much cheese and maybe too much sugar from fruit.

It looks a lot written down and my food intake is quite low but it's getting to the point that it feels "normal" after 2 months doing it. Too much? Or is that for me/my body to decide?

Back on the wagon this week after a bad week last week.

Eating lots of salad, no beer, lovely bit of fish last night and definitely no cakes!

30 min roller session on Sunday night nearly killed me and 2 hrs in the gym last night has left me a bit sore.

Needed another "target" to aim for so just signed up for this:
http://www.sandfordparkslido.org.uk/event/mira-showers-triathlon/

I've always been a strong swimmer and recently been doing 600m sessions as part of my gym routine. The bike isn't a worry but the run is. Its only 2.8k so I've worked out a route around the houses here which is bang on and going to attempt it later in the week!

Lunge - all your sessions add up to about 5.5hrs + anything over the 2 hours on Sunday. That's less than an hour a day so isn't normally what causes 'over training' symptoms. That said, you can't be too carefull and the only cure to over training is enforced rest - nightmare.
Measuring heartrate first thing in the morning is supposed to reveal over-training, if its over 10bpm higher than normal resting you are in trouble.
A mix of intensities is good for feeling fresh I find - maybe keep one of the lunch runs at 7.15 or slower.

I think I'm pretty good in that regard, the lunch runs are a bit shorter and faster, the Saturday run is longer and slower.
The turbo sessions are also a mix, some intervals, some HIIT, some threshold, some sweet spot. All bloody hard mind you.

I'll moniter it, I think it just because I'm knackered today, went DEEP on the turbo last night then a sharp run at lunch and I'm struggling to keep my eyes open.

There is an equation, and it's quite complex, but broadly speaking if the hill is steep enough that you're going slow enough so that air and rolling resistance is neligable then your power requirement to climb a hill at a given speed is proportional to your weight.

http://theclimbingcyclist.com/gradients-and-cycling-how-much-harder-are-steeper-climbs/

So, lose 10% of your weight (looking at the average STW chubber, that'll be say 200 -> 180lbs) then you'll be 10% faster.

Well I reckon 1 leg must 10%ish of my weight, so based on the above if I lop 1 leg off I'll be 10% quicker 😯
