Definitely some weirdly low rankings - I was comfortably beaten by someone ranked 200-and-something at the time, when I was 870-something.

When you first join on there or if you haven't played for a while, you're given a low rating by default.

I found that out the hard way when I rather underestimated @2bit (ranked about 800 at the time I was playing) and lost the first game. His ranking is now about 1150 which seems much more at the level he was actually playing!

I'm on a bit of a losing streak at the moment - got two tournaments on the go, the non-STW one is Round 2 of something I joined ages ago. Getting thrashed in that so my rating which briefly touched 1400 is falling back rather rapidly.

Loving the tournament and +100 thanks for setting them all up.

Similar experience to others.
Had totally forgotten T1 existed it's been (or at least feels like) such a long time ago.

Have had various experiences playing players ranked both below and above me who, I reckon, have played well above/below their respective rankings. It's definitely more surprising when someone plays (well) above their current rank 😁.

As much as I'm loving playing daily I find myself getting frustrated with my lack of consistency. Anyone else?

There are some hours (sometimes whole days) when I see 'it' (matrix style (not really)) & moves are obvious well in advance & I can see what I think my opponent is trying to do. That sounds far more queen's gambit than it actually is but it's the best I can describe it.

Then there are the other times (the majority of times) where I'm either impatient or its been a while since my last move (wanting to play & further the game but not really taking the time to think), don't see 'it' and/or have forgotten what I was planning/had seen due to either so many games on the go or trying to cram in some moves whilst not really concentrating.

It's soooo frustrating seeing games slip away when you know it's your fault & you could/should have seen what your opponent was planning.

I used to play when I was in school many moons ago for the school club, a chess club, county & national teams (once, just as I was falling out of chess) and it was definitely very different then sitting down for 2 hours solely concentrating on a single game than today's 'multi game on the phone at all times of the day'.

Think it's an interesting reflection of how I am now, how busy & cluttered my days/life are/is (especially at the moment being v busy with work & doing long hours) & how I deal/ cope and fluctuate daily with it.

Chess - mirror of the soul?!

Might have to start using the notes function in games to try & keep a handle on any 'strategy' I'm planning...

I’ve been lucky in my last few games and got onto a bit of a roll. Had a fun game with sillysilly that ended in a draw. Another game against Stevo-mcd that seemed close, until a couple of classy moves by him tore right through my defence.
I like the starts of the tournament, where there are a number of games on the go and the moves come in thick and fast. Unfortunately, it loses excitement for me when you have to wait 48 hours for the next move. Some people have completed over 10 games, some none so far. But them’s the rules, I need to learn to be more Zen.

Slow play warning. I'll be in the Cairngorms with no phone signal Saturday - Monday so after making moves in all my games around 2pm Saturday I may not be active until Monday. Unless I get a signal on the tops on Sunday.

I've played all my games in Round 1!

This is the downside of playing quickly - there's then months of waiting around for everyone else to finish!

I'm in another tournament at the moment where I progressed to the next round and it's just a 1 on 1 (two games on the go). Oh my God, the other player is slow.

Is it too soon to start tournament 5?

I'll pass on a new STW tournament right now. I'm in 23 tournaments which means 20 to 30 active games. Depends how many are stalled waiting for games to finish like STW1 is.

Of course if there is enough interest someone else could set up STW5.

Would it make sense to create a STW Chess club on Chess.com? Makes it easier to organise tournaments, play one-off games, get involved in club matches, etc.
