We're heading to the French Pyrenees next year, I fancy getting a couple of books about the area, always enjoy knowing something about an area as I cycle through it!
Love and War in the Pyrenees looks like an obvious choice, apparently a bit of a rambling read but the content sounds interesting.
Tried searching for books about the construction of the roads in the Alps, thought there might be some interesting stories and history, but couldn't find much.
General history/geography, even good mountaineering books would be well received.
Can anyone recommend anything?

I would recommend Cruel Crossing by Edward Stourton. A historical account of escapes from the Nazis across the Pyrenees
Nice, I saw the cover flash by on Google, will search it out. Ta
Tony Hawks - A piano in the Pyrenees. I read it years ago and seem to remember quite enjoying it.
The Man Who Married A Mountain by Rosemary Bailey.
Irish aristocrat who explored the Pyrenees and lived in caves.
By way of a ripping yarn Shibumi by Trevanian which by way of a very tenuous link just happens to be set in and around the Basque country eventually. Warning contains explicit details of Volvo abuse.
