There are lots of examples of stories written in ten words or less. Do you best, if this turns out to be any good the powers that be might use some to fill the paper magazine.

You must write a story in ten words or less. Ideally it will be funny, moving, intriguing or Amy combination there of

Some examples

For Sale. Babies clothes. Unworn.

Vini. Vidi. Vici.

There is a murderer. Oh shit, it's you. Bang!

Last one is my efforts, first one I forget the author but brings a lump to my throat when I think about it, middle one is a smug Roman general saying I can, I saw, I conquered .

Go on the STW do your best

Hand in hand they stood before the future, celebrating life.

Probably paraphrased from some Radio 4 Drama but I remember it enough to have liked it.

I was born. I had a right laugh. I died.

(Agree the middle one is great and very sad, only hitting you when you stop to think about it. Well, it did for me...)

Does it have to be about STW?

He came seeking advice. He got it, disagreed, and flounced.

How about opening lines that make you want to read on....

it's ten words or fewer.....

Only to absolute pedants. Heard a guy on R4 last week, from I think the Oxford English dictionary or similar..... and the gist was less has been used in this context for hundreds of years now and on the basis that language evolves by how it's used rather than by a set of rules, if people have been saying '10 or less' for that long, it's correct usage.

1. RCA didn't say the story had to be true.
2. It is definitely fewer rather than less. There are many grammatical rules that are more guidelines than laws, particularly as regards the use of punctuation, but in the context of the sentence "You must write a story in ten words or less." less is simply the wrong word.
3. But thank you for believing my story of ten words, none the less.

wordnumb I used to think that, but I believe you are wrong. Evidence going back 100s of years for both usages.

I admire your attitude, none the fewer... 😉
