Some of the schools up in the North East of England are not breaking up until the 22nd or 23rd of December.
My village relies on tourism as it's main source of income and it's noticeably quieter than normal this week.
No doubt some of that is down to be people being generally skint but the fact the kids are still at school can't help.
Can't see any logic in it, it was always 3 weeks, with 1 week before and 2 weeks after Christmas.

We never had 3 week Christmas holidays, always 2.
You live at the North Pole... how cool 🙂
In my experience school holidays have always been 2 weeks at xmas.

Same here, sometimes a couple of days added on with Bank Holidays.
If your LA has 3 weeks at Christmas, they will are presumably trimming holidays elsewhere through the year...
Three weeks? It's basically been two up in Scotland for ever, finishing just before Xmas and back on a date somewhere between 3rd and 6th (ish)
As far as I recall, was always 2 when I were a lad. Sometimes you got lucky with how the days fell and it would be friday to monday for a total of 16 days, maybe even one extra beyond that.
2 weeks darn sarf, but the local schools finished on friday (back on 3rd Jan) so you might soon be inundated by hordes of visiting southerners. That's possibly a worse fate than it being too quiet.
Always 2 weeks for my kids. They broke up last Friday and we're in Leeds.
Actually about 2 and a half this time with teacher training day 3rd Jan.
The High Schools in Bronxgrove finished last Friday, as did all the schools in Evesham as far as I can tell.
It feels like there's more shuffling and changing of school holidays in recent years. Last year's 6 week summer holiday was just over 7 weeks.
My younger two (12 & 14) are at school in the same borough and their hols don't quite align, starting and stopping a few days apart. We always try to do a week or two with the Scottish half of the family in summer hols, that's a nightmare..last week of hols for them is sometimes first week of hols for us.
The silver lining is booking time off at work, my half term hols are often a week apart from half my team.
Only ever 2 weeks at primary and secondary, give or take the odd inset day.
Daughter breaks up at 13.30 on 22nd, goes back on 9th.
Our tribe finished on Friday and go back on the first Wednesday in the New Year, 3 weeks at Christmas, sounds like some posho public school to me that
Angus, 2 weeks and we break up on 23rd.
Nieces in England broke up aweek ago which seems early to me 🤷
19 Dec until January in Buckinghamshire
Seems perfectly normal to me. Imagine you have young kids that need cared for and they have 3 weeks off at Christmas that’s a major burden on parents annual leave and/or childcare budgets. With Christmas being an expensive time of year, the weather being shite, and it being dark from ~3pm I can’t imagine parents preferring 3 weeks now rather than using the 3rd week later in the year (all state schools are 190 days regardless of the holiday pattern). I’d rather the views of parents were prioritised over some shopkeepers or cafe owners! I’m surprised the postal strikes (and nock on effect for other couriers) hadn’t driven more footfall to shopping local though.
Independent schools might get 3 weeks. UK state schools should have your kids for 190 days per year. But next year it will be 189 days because of the new King gets a fancy hat day.
Running right up to Christmas never makes sense. It just makes the longest term even longer

Some folk aren't just tightening their belts, they have sold the belts and replaced them with string.
Good luck to any village that needs Xmas tourists.
As far as I aware, Aviemore is pretty much booked up as usual for the Xmas/Hogmanay period. It's possible that some folk are choosing a UK break rather than go abroad?
Always 2 weeks for me.
Relatives kids down in Bucks are off from today, back on 3rd Jan.
Up here in Derbyshire the kids are off from 22nd and back on the 9th.
Works out well for me as I can wrap presents whilst they're at school. Also off to see friends the first week in Jan, so ties up nicely there.

or the demographic that book hotels/cottages for christmas aren't particulary effected by the cost of living..

Very much this
Yup,it's only the rich and famous that vacation in Aviemore these days 😉 😆
Last year’s 6 week summer holiday was just over 7 weeks.
Im pretty sure this is normal and that every 5 or so years summer holidays are 7 weeks rather than the usual 6 and due to covid this should have been in 2020 but they went back early so the 7 week one was last year instead.
Holidys in Aberdeenshire since i started school in the late 70s have been 2 weeks for easter, October (tattie holidays as we usually ended up working them picking tatties) and christmas and 6 or 7 weeks in the summer .... i think.
Kids finish here (Scottish Borders) on Thursday 22nd, back on Monday 9th. I think that fact that Hogmanay is a public holiday here, so get x2 days off skews things slightly as easier for most to take leave after new year than before Christmas.
Schools finish on Thursday in Highland region. Kids are off till the 9th January. It works out quite well this year as you can travel Friday or Saturday to get to your holiday accommodation in plenty of time for Christmas Day on Sunday. That’s if your fortunate enough to be able to afford it. Not me I’m skint but good luck to those that can.

That explains all the Michelin stars, the convoys of luxury sedans and the casinos too.
😆 🤣
Two weeks and a day here, no different to previous years. Thought that was fairly normal.

And there was me thinking The Vault was a horrible little small-town nightclub and not an actual vault for the rich n famous.
You'd hardly recognise the place since they relocated the Orient Express to the Boat of Garten line.
When did this come in?
These days.
