There was footage of the news of americans bailing out of cars on ice earlier in the year. I assumed it was just americans. Maybe they're tourists?

Thick as two short planks. Although I was in a very similar situation in Saltash last week, except that I was in a LWD Transit. Fortunately ABS and ESP kept it going more or less where I wanted and I jammed the wheels into the edge of the pavement to stop.

Pretty obvious to see why many people are finding this so funny but believe me, not one person who witnessed this was laughing at the time. My wife and I felt physically sick, as did many others. Thankfully, the couple involved didn't suffer any serious injuries. More importantly, no pedestrians or children were hit by the abandoned car.

It may be a stupid question.. but did the stunt of bailing out invalidate the car insurance? could it be deemed that the car has been left unattended? what if the car went on to collide with a bus queue?

I would have been tempted to bail too. Car was accelerating down the hill with the brakes on... Anyone know whats round that corner? Truck with a spike on the front perhaps?

How else do people expect them to stop the car if they dont use the brakes?

@ aracer - many people get the impression that being in a vehicle with such safety features will enable them to be in control of the vehicle at all times, which simply isn't true.

how often do you see trucks with spikes on? tractors with bale spikes travel with the spike up by law, and they are very rare in towns.

incidentally, there's a picture on one website of the car stopped just round the corner bashed into a brick wall...
