Just wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences with Student accommodation in Leeds centre.  Son is potentially signing up with IQ and want to avoid any pitfalls.

thanks

My kids all had either UoL accommodation for the first year, or private houses shared with a group of mates in subsequent years, so no direct experience. What I would say is that there is loads of student accommodation in Leeds, and the likes of IQ are pretty expensive. However the flats are much nicer than some o of the shared houses, and tend to be closer to the uni and city centre.

It depends what you are looking for really - my kids have had some truly grim places, but were actually quite happy.

Have you been for a visit/walk round?

Theres a LOT of student accomodation. That one looks nice (bloody expensive but I suppose thats the going rate) but if your not familiar with Leeds, there 'centrally located' claims are a little misleading - its in a bit of a dead spot, neither the city centre nor the studenty areas further West towards Headingley.

Not far... but its not 'right in the mix' if thats what they want (my advise would be you really do, especially in your first year!).

I'd agree with the above, it's in a bit of a funny location, away from the centre and the student life. Not a million miles away but there's plenty closer. Don't know much about it but noticed a big block opposite the Merrion Centre that looked nice enough, when I was in LGI with my boy. Near the Arena, Queen Square? As mentioned before, there's loads that cover all budgets so probably best to go and have a wonder about.

Had two of my daughters at Leeds and I can guarantee they they'll want to be around Headingly eventually.

At the same time I'll guarantee that all the private accommodation will be fairly disgusting, expensive and have rats... But the kids love it!!
