Evening gents,

The MIL is arriving this weekend. Being of the transatlantic persuasion both she and Mrs Spw3 love to spend the evening drinking beer and watching "Football". The last time I tried to indulge this particular predilection I streamed ESPN on a laptop connected to the TV but the image was so pixelated as to be almost unwatchable.

Equipment options: we have an iPad, AppleTV (v1) and a laptop. But no Sky box or similar.

Any ideas? If I could sort out a decent picture it would certainly mean some major brownie points.

I erm, watch on dodgy streams but even on Sunday morning with a 0115 kick-off, streams were tough to find - didn't get a decent quality one till half-time. As it's a one off visit, could you not do a free trial of NowTv and pay the eight quid for 24 hours of Sky Sports to at least get a decent picture which you could then send to your TV?

Hi DD,

Is NowTV a Sky thing?

I have no issue paying btw, the ESPN stream cost me but was just very poor. No idea if that was a bandwidth thing though.

Yeah, I think it is. It's normally a tenner a month - but you can sign up for a free trial (14 days) then pay £7.99 for 24 hours of sky sports. (If they want to spend the whole weekend watching, you might have to buy 2 x £7.99...dunno...haven't looked at timings for the divisionals. But I imagine they're two games per day for two days. Given that the NowTV thing would be a UK stream of Sky Sports, I think it'd be ok. Hopefully someone who's tried it will chip in. Like I say, I'd happily watch it illegally, but for a special visitor, I'd probably pay for it and a decent picture. NowTV is available as an app on latest Apple TV. (Just re-read your post and see you have v1 so sorry, not much use.)

Sports dictator always seems to have good streams of the football, I'm sure they'll probably have american football to, only downside is I have internet on the telly but it wouldn't play it so had to stick to the ipad. Haven't tried connecting the laptop to the telly though. Will have to give that a go.
