Say you are getting your house painted and the painters need to put scaffholding up half in your garden and half in next door's garden to do part of it, would you knock the neighbour's door and check it was OK before the event?
Or say that wasn't possible, would you knock their door in the evening once you watched them come home and say "sorry, you weren't around to ask, it'll be away on Friday, hope that's OK?"
Just wondering, like...
i guess there is scaffolding in your garden and no-one told you?
I think this comes under the party wall agreement. But, as you aren't actually doing work on the party wall i'd ask nicely first and obviously rectify any damage.
But, if your relationship is frosty, go down proper party wall procedure, they are obliged to respond.
thomtumb - indeed. Came home last night to find a scaffholding tower in front of the house. Still there today.
If it's in your garden, it's now your property.
Angle grinder it off at the fence line and weigh it in.
Edit;
Scaffolding tower, you say ?
They're usually aluminium. £1000 a tonne.
How much is scrap steel fetching nowadays?
e: I'm just too slow today 🙁
If I came home to find a garden full of scaffolding that i hadn't been asked/told about I'd hang the chap responsible by his shoe laces from the top until I could be arsed to let him down. Either that or by morning I'm sure it would have collapsed....

Totally and utterly unacceptable imo.
you would ask /inform /beg you cant put stuff in your neighbours garden without asking first everyone knows this.
You may have to do it because the scaffolder says on the day in which case go round apologise take wine/beer/flowers whatever.
Did the definitely know it would end up in your garden?
I need a scaffold tower, where do you live? 😉
I would report them to the police for bad spelling

Worth more sold as scaffolding than scrap, shirley?
Worth more sold as scaffolding than scrap, shirley?
Possibly, but there's a mega large scrap metal place down my way where a deal can be finalised in minutes. Selling a second-hand tower is gonna take a fair bit longer.
I was thinking along the lines of a neighbour's tree, where you're entitled to cut off the overhanging branches.
If you cut off just the overhanging part of a scaffold tower, it won't be much use as scaffolding any more.
He said it was Straw Poll Scaffolding - There is no alu or steel involved.
Anyway Is it really such an issue? Nobody has died. In the interests of good relations Let the folk get on and it will be away soon. Of course they should have asked first.
Ask if you can borrow their scaff to clear your gutters or something?
Nobody has died.
And of course everyone one has been treating this issue as if someone has died.
Thanks all.
I did go and speak to neighbour last night, who basically seems incredulous that it is even an issue, and never thought to ask us if it was OK.

park your car on his lawn.
Maybe they didn't know it would be in your garden beforehand?
Just saying like, cos something similar happened to us - our neighbours didn't like the scaffolding we had to have up cos it hung over their fence. We didn't think to tell them before the tower went up cos we didn't know it would be in that position. They were fine about it, which is a good job cos my kid kicks the football over their fence 6 times a day.

In that case, wee in his shoes, own him with bombers etc.
It's annoying, and very easy to let it wind you up or worse seek retribution. Take pride in the fact that you wouldn't behave like that and hopefully the Karma police will take care of everything else.
Buy an old car for £100 and park it in his front garden...tell him it'll be away on Friday.
EDIT: I really must try to keep up.
Either way...it would annoy the hell out of me...I hate it when neighbours are inconsiderate. We have students next door who don't seem to understand that chicken bones in a bin bag over night = torn up bags and rubbish everywhere in the morning.
