My boss has requested to follow me on Strava. If I decline it looks like I have something to hide. If I say yes, he'll see how many miles I do when I'm working from home...
Lol!
(Private rides, btw)
Work/Outside Work.
Never the twain should meet, and I suspect your boss will understand that.
just say it's a type of social media and you don't ix your work and personal life. I assume he's not on your facebook too?
If he's inclined to look he can see what you're up to whether he's following you or not.
Be sure to delete the trails that head to his front door whilst he's at work.
That's my advice.. 😆
How can you see people's rides when you're not following them?
You can pick out their entry on segment leaderboards, click the date and look at the ride they did including that segment on that day.
That's why I always like to make sure I'm at least 20 pages back on every segment. 🙂
In response to the OP, time for a fake Strava a/c...
I knew you could do that but you need to know that someone has ridden that day and in what area to check up on them.
Pulling up the half dozen segments nearest to my address would soon show me nipping off for a sneaky ride.
I'm fully locked-down on the privacy front so I don't think anyone can see my rides unless they really look for them. It's not really a problem - he knows I do more than my fair share of hours. It's more that at this time of year he'll see the laboured 14mph rides and he'll realise I'm not the lean mean machine he thinks I am 😉
Umm Athlete Search... just type a name in and you get to see what they've done this week. Bit of exploring and you can get to a lot more.
Second account then only add those rides outside of work time - every now and then too.
If he asks - you've been too busy to ride 😉
Do the same thing you do when they try and befriend you on any other social media, don't acknowledge the request. Eventually they get tired of asking, or they won't bring it up anyway if you don't.
I had a similar dilemma last year. I accepted the request, and carried on riding, and nothing has ever been said. I even started taking the p*** a bit by calling rides things like 'Working Lunch', 'I love my job' etc 🙂
I guess it comes down to the relationship you have with your boss. Like you, I do my fair share and the boss knows it.
Accept then bin him off.
Had the same a year or so ago, work and social media in general should not mix.
Cycling really is the new golf then, eh?
Accept and see if he rides when he's out for "meetings".
