i would imagine a few of you will have been there before, any recommendations for places to stay?

not cheap as chips with sticky carpets, but not silly money either.....

thanks 🙂

Loads of little B+B's around, and heaps of guest houses in town. I suspect they'll be chomping at the bit for bookings at the mo.

My parents have stayed here and liked it.
Public transport to some of the more rural villages isn't great, but if you've got your own transport it's pretty much a case of pick a village and there will be accommodation!
Warwick is nice enough, but I'm not sure of any reasons why it would be better than Stratford.
The one way system is a ballache, but so's the one in Stratford tbh!

The King's Head in Great Alne does brilliant food, but don't know if they are at the moment.

If you're going to Stratford, do yourself a favour and go to Hoorays ice cream parlour, the Gelato is ace, and they're exactly the sort of business that's struggling at the mo.

I’ve stayed at the Swans Nest Hotel every time I’ve been.

Not been for about twenty years though.

Central Premier In is fine - stayed a few nights there, and also the one near the canal North of town centre (both times with children).

Also stayed at 2 small B&B's in the past and they were lovely.

Moonraker House outside the main town to the North - no kids, lovely place.

Faviere Guest House Also - with kids - lovely walk through the park past the Butterfly Farm into town, to the South.

We love Stratford and it's only 2-2.5 hours from us.

Moonraker House doesn't look like it's changed in the 25 years since we've been..... yikes.

How about a little further out?

I can highly recommend the Dormy House Hotel near Broadway, which is a beautiful Cotswold village itself.

We stayed in a nice little self catering cottage 5-10 minutes walk from town. All I can remember was it had a tiny little spiral staircase to upstairs. Can't remember much more, it was a long time ago now! Saw King Lear, really enjoyed it, first and only time I've been to a theatre proper.

we have family get togethers there most years. everyone normally stays in in the Swans Nest. Its pretty nice and not too pricey. Good location too, you can walk into the centre in a few minutes and right on the river. As a guest you can use the neighbouring hotel's pool (think they are the same hotel group).

We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin which was very nice and was offering good deals at the time. Good location and nice restaurant.

well we're back, loved the place, really pretty and relaxing. walking along the river by all the greenery, it was great to see couples spread out on picnic rugs with bottles of wine, families playing cricket and boules, boats selling wood-fired pizzas, lots of boats in general actually.....lovely.

must admit, i think it would have been a totally different experience in bad weather, i think its one of those 'sunny day' type towns, its all geared up to the parks and river so we were extremely lucky with two hot days.

couldnt fault the hotel either, and having walked past the indigo and mercure also, i think id have been happy in either of them too.

thanks all for the advice.

warwick just as nice you say?
