Goonies meets Stephen King is the best description I have read. Great acting, wonderfully nostalgic being set in the 80's. Brilliant score too. It's fantastic. Everyone will be talking about it in a few weeks, I guarantee it.

Enjoyable escapism. A bit rough around the edges, could have been genuinely brilliant.

Binge watched it over three nights. Goonies, ET and King rolled in to one with just the right amount of cheese. Really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Brought back some great memories of riding around on my Grifter as a kid. Highly recommended.

Three episodes in so far. So far, so good. One of the few Netflix series that has lived up to the hype.

We also really enjoyed it. Nicely made nostalgia.
Series 2, 10 years later maybe?

Just queued it up.

Dunno why, but reading the description made me think of Eerie Indiana.

Literally hit the nail on the head for me - If VR was good enough to offer me an alternative reality I'd base myself there - nostalgia levels set to 11, absolutely loved it!

I don;t get it.I've watched two episode after friends and half of twitter recommended it, but i can't get into it. It is self-indulgent, over-stylised, derivative rubbish.

MrsSalmon and I are well into it. That said, we're at the stage where things are starting to get explanations and that often seems to be a bit of a let down so we'll see how it goes...

Mrs Binners was away last week, so once I'd got the coke an hookers out of the way, and my time was once again my own, I binge watched the lot in 2 sittings.

Its bloody brilliant!

I absolutely loved the VHS video shop case someone made. How cool is this?!

I've not seen the show but DJ Yoda has inspired me to give it a go

http://www.factmag.com/2016/08/01/dj-yoda-has-turned-the-stranger-things-soundtrack-into-a-house-party-mix/

That's some filthy synths

The writing is a bit wooly, and characterisations jump about a bit, but I am going to stick with it.

Purely to see that ****er get hers for doing that bad thing to the guy.

That's the ****.

She spilled his milk of human kindness all over the floor. 🙁

You could see it coming from a mile off, tho.

I thought it was great - if a little humourless.

What's surprised me it that they are planning to carry on with the same characters for season 2. ("like Harry Potter" in their words).

I was hoping it was going to be a reset like Fargo or American Horror Story 🙁

Episode 5 pop quiz:

Do you:

A] Unscrew everything in the house.
B] Just go outside.

Please shout your answers at the screen.

Binged to the end.

7/10.

The thing I wanted to happen happened, so all good. More theories and questions, but will wait till more people have had a chance to watch it.

Just finished it.
Good balance of finishing the series and leaving things open for series 2.
Toss up between the chief, Dustin or Steve's hair as to which was my favourite character.

Very much enjoyed that. Not perfect but lots to like and some proper hollow chest moments of dread

Fantastic TV - every episode was a treat. I wonder why we can't make cinematic series like it.

<cynical mode> I suspect with all the viewer tracking that netflix/amazon etc have, they know exactly what genres/actors to commission to produce 'hit series' </cynical mode>

Still enjoyed it though 🙂

@stuey - that's exactly what they are doing. But TV companies have been doing stuff like that since the 1960's, they just have better data now.
I'm not complaining, I now have access to more good TV than I can watch

I thought it was great. I like the little homages to other films. I annoyed my wife shouting "Ferris Bueller", "The Thing" etc at the TV.

Just finished. Love it. Basically

The Goonies - gang of geeky kids
ET - hiding the "alien" plus nasty government agenta
Akira - psychic kid
The Hangover - looking for their lost mate
Pans Labyrinth - weird monsters and alternative dimension

All rolled into into one. Absolutely brilliant.

I'm guessing at the end the sheriff has been recruited to keep an eye on or lure eleven back, hence the food in the box???

That's quite an all-night marathon BoardinBob. I finished yesterday too - flickering lights won't be the same again.
Worth remembering that Hopper and Joyce are the only people to have explored the Upside-Down and come back. (Will doesn't count as he was hiding mainly.)

...and the Nancy who went through the tree.

I'm surprised that the strobing in the final episode didnt get a big warning.
Us too. We had a totally black room with a 96" screen flashing at us - we had to turn away - headache inducing!

I remember someone saying that all these new outlets for TV (Amazon/Netflix/etc) aren't strictly broadcasters so the same rules don't apply.

Just finished it, loved it. Hopper is definitely the best character. Good to see Winona Ryder again, even if she has been going to the crazy cat lady school of acting

I believe that's not too far out of her day to day comfort zone
