I check my credit score semi regularly (as it’s terrible lol)
Today in the “soft search” category under the “anti money laundering” section was one from an online bookmaker (bet fair or something) for someone with my name, except a different middle name, my DOB, and almost my old address (house next door, very similar name)
Should I be worried?! And indeed should I do anything about it? If so, what?
Yes you should be concerned
*I don't know who best to contact, my bank has an identity theft help service, try yours
Depends who you used to get your 'credit score'.
They are generally meaningless, but the above info may allude to fraud, or attempted fraud in your name.
What service did you use?
should I do anything about it? If so, what?
Ask the whichever agency it is to remove any reference to someone who doesn't have your name and doesnt have your address from your record. Just being similar isnt a valid reason for that being there - not their fault but its their responsibly to correct it
Credit scores themselves are pretty meaningless but the useful thing about that credit record is it correctly pertaining to you and verifying your amenity on any applications- your correct name, your correct address etc. Where I've had issues with credit refusal - mobile phone contracts usually - its been because various agencies (utilities, council tax etc) all stated my address differently ('ground floor flat - flat 0/1 - flat 1 etc) so the credit applications just failed in verifying that I lived at that address.
Someone who isn't you shouldn't show up on any record that is about you.
It’s a trans union one through the credit karma app.
I’ve raised a dispute on grounds of not authorising the search and it not being me to have it removed, although it’s not particularly impactive score wise.
Bizarre.
Depends,
has fictitious you got a better credit rating?
