Bit of a strange one - i think, im no computer wizz!

I bought a new usb flash drive from ebay to store a load of films to take on holiday with me. its a 32gb drive.
ive put 8 .avi films on so far, they play fine from the drive on both my laptop and portable dvd player.

however all the others i try to copy on wont work. They play fine when saved to my laptop. But playing from the USB on the laptop or dvd player wont work. The video opens in VLC player but then never plays. The files are all around the same size.

anyone have any ideas!?

thanks

What format is usb drive formatted (NTFS / FAT32 e.t.c.) as and what size are the films you are having trouble playing?

assuming windows, download the klite codec pack.. standard ver should be fine

if its linux, look for the gstreamer plugins and see what you haven't got installed

the drive is formatted as fat32

the films are around 600 - 800mb.

i tried the codec pack but no luck. When i play the films in media player classic from the usb it says Cannot render the file. Still plays fine from the laptop.

thanks for all the help so far!

Rather than the file formats I'd maybe be suspicious about the USB memory, there are a lot of fakes about on eBay that have much less than the claimed memory, however they fool the computer into thinking the memory is there, so it can seem that you've saved a file there but in fact you haven't

might be how the avi files were encoded (xvid, divx, etc) - i get the same with me telly. The TV will decode avis encoded one way but not the other (and i never remember which)
