You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Anyone got one of these? The brother in law has had one installed and he tells me that it's multifuel but that the installer said that the raised grate (on which I presumed you would ordinarily burn coal) cannot be removed so he is burning wood on that (and ultimately said there's not much volume inside the thing to do so as a result). Installer said it would be £50 to remove the grate thing but then it would no longer be "multifuel"?
Our stove has a fairly easily removable coal grate thing for if/when we burn coal so was wondering whether ours or theirs is the norm? I just assumed that if you were solely burning wood you did so most effectively on a bed of ash not on a raised grate that ash fell through?
I've not seen the stove first hand myself and didn't want to push it with Qs in case it was my limited understanding that was at fault!
Anyone got any wisdom to impart?? 🙂
i've got one, it burns wood almost exclusively, with the grate in. if its well seasoned i can keep it on all night (just). sometimes burn coal and peat on the same grate. its a great stove, mind you, the flue and chimney should be regarded as the same appliance, a stove is only as good as its flue. £50 to take grate out is robbery, its a 2 min job a child can do. lift baffle, lift out fire bricks (3), unscrew riddle handle from front, lift grate out.
Grate Removal
To remove the centre grate, un-screw control knob from riddling rod, rotate grate anti-clockwise until rod passes out of guide hole. Now, manipulate grate out of stove door opening. Note the position of the hook on the end of the riddling rod as it connects to the grate. If it becomes disconnected then re-connect by passing the hook under and up through the grate arm.

But I'm guessing that the £50 includes travelling out to do it?
Also have a firefox 5 - brilliant little stove! I burn just wood and put it straight on to the grate (have never cleaned it out and just leave a bed of ash to sit logs on to - it doesn't all fall through). The £50 referenced above could be for the conversion kit:

Might get one of these myself but not in any particular hurry as it's working fine just now.....Oli.
Great, thanks for these replies, most helpful and educational for me too! I rarely burn coal TBH so the grate lives under our stove. I got the impression that the £50 was quoted as an option at installation so maybe it was for a kit?
Thanks all anyway.
