You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon folks,
I've already got a multi fuel stove and want to move it from the living room into our conservatory.
I'll be able to build the hearth etc so just need someone DEFRA approved to do the installation and flue through the roof etc.
The stove will be at the far end of the conservatory and well away from the house.
Can anyone recommend an installer around the Manchester / Stockport area? I just rang my local fireplace warehouse retailer and they want £95 up front just to give us a quote! Is that the norm?!
There is no chimney breast work etc, just flue through the roof job done. Pretty straight forward id imagine. They said the total cost would be in the region of £1,200?
Unsure what to expect cost wise. I'd imagine that dropping flue down a chimney and chimney breast work would be expensive but would installing one in a conservatory be cheaper?
Anything else I need to take into consideration?
Thanks
It's a HETAS installer you need.
Or you could do it yourself and get it signed off by building control.
It's very straight forward. INO HETAS is a complete rip off.
£95 for a quote is a joke. They must be so busy that they can afford to charge ridiculous rates. Remember a flue is just a chimney, it's not rocket science.
There is loads of information on line and lots of flue suppliers will design a compliant system if you give them the measurements.

I used these and they were very helpful. http://www.fluesupplies.com/
You will be needing insulated flue sections and the cost does build up quite quickly.
I'd guess this isn't going to be as easy as you hope. To be hetas approached the top of the flue will need to be level with any roof line within 8 metres (as I remember)
We looked into this for ours and it was going to be very, very pricey.
You could get some insulated flue and run it up through the roof with a collar and it will work fine but it's not likely to be 'proper'.
Thanks both.
It's going to be far enough away from the house to not cause an issue on that front (I think it's 2.7 meters+ that it needs to be). The flue needs to be a certain height above the highest part of the conservatory however.
I've emailed a local company and hope to have a quote from them on Monday. I should have done this months ago, everywhere is mad busy at the moment!
paying for quotes for this type of work is not uncommon.. you ruck up at an address.. folks spend an hour explaining how they want this that all the bells and whistles.. you measure up go home work out what you ll need what i t ll cost when you can do it add it all up only to be told.. cant afford it now we just wanted an idea of what it might cost.. you ve wasted 4 hours just to satisfy their curiosity and that doesnt pay bills... the 95 quid quote means you only get to deal with serious enquires..
I guess they only deal with serious stupid people. Who on earth pays £95 for a quote not having a clue how much the total job will cost?
If they have to charge to provide quotes then there is something wrong with their business model. They should price their jobs sufficiently to cover the costs of quoting on jobs that may or may not turn into real jobs.
The company I called are actually a particular large nationwide chain which to me makes charging for quotes ridiculous.
Have two quotes booked next week both are HETAS for Defra approved, wont be paying for them. Had one already, good sales pitch but that seemed to be about 1k more than I've been led to believe it should cost. Is getting three unreasonable?
The more the merrier. Are you having one installed into a conservatory?
Kinross Stove Centre wanted to charge for a quote, deductible from the purchase price. We just used someone else. There are plenty of other fitters out there...

No living room, but you have got me thinking about the garage, be interested to see photos of your final installation.
