Jerry Dyer of Dirt fame?
He just said he used to ride DH MTB..... it just may be the same bloke.
Well there appears to be some sort of cyclone in the southern Indian ocean that has a red splodge too.
Big Jet TV – Jerry Dyer.
Jerry Dyer of Dirt fame?
Yep, he's just talked about his days racing in DH mountain biking!

He just talked about previously riding downhill so must be.
I'm waiting for the 'how does he sit down in the pilot's seat with balls that big?'
My wife had to go into work today, despite every other department (local authority) told not to. Because the post that no-one is there to produce has to be sent out.
Anyway she took my volvo rather than her soft-top, and when i chucked a sleeping bag, mat and pillow in the boot she scoffed. Currently all roads in and out of lyndhurst blocked with fallen trees, so she might be glad of my foresight!
Our greenhouse glass couldn't take the pressure & popped 😭
Just witnessed a big old birch as it toppled opposite us and chiltern line is blocked nr amersham due to tree being down.
For the brave (or stupid)….. some great
Strava segment KOMphoto opportunities at some harbour walls today. 🙂

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
I cycled to work this morning. My office is on the seafront on the South Coast.
It was a 'brisk' if not entirely sensible decision
wind is exciting on the 6th floor. May pop down to the beach in a bit.
oi oi Houns - saw you!
Heh! I’ve got an assignment to do but glued to this
Small rant. Had an e-mail from our child's nursery at 10 saying they were closing at 12 and could all parents come and collect their children by then.
Where we are the storm is peaking right now and it's seriously windy out there.
If they were worried about safety of parents, children and staff surely then wait out the storm and close at 4, meaning that parents could see what damage had been done and plan, rather than be out while the damage is happening in the middle of a red warning.
And kids in pushchairs in 74mph gusts. No thanks!
Wife had to drive from work to pick up as small branches etc falling around her, couple of trees down but not quite blocking the road. Potential there for serious injury.
A380 inbound....terrifying to watch
Nope! Not today, thanks!

a380 coming in...and (s)he's bottled it
edit - that emirates 380 pilot was chefskiss.jpg
Just went to let the cat out, opened the door and it took one look outside and turned round and ran off upstairs.
Shits getting real!
It would appear we (southern UK) are currently experiencing the strongest winds anywhere around the globe!
Not quite the world beating sunlit uplands I was hoping for.....
Mate flew out of Heathrow this morning said it was crazy, people screaming and someone shouting we're all going to die!
someone shouting we’re all going to die!
Helpful.
We were supposed to be going to Laggan then on to Nairn. Decided to go to Dunkeld, turned off A9 as all the traffic stopped south of Perth.
Auchterader seems nice. Think we might be here for a day or two because of the snow. No wind here.
Probably not one of our greatest decisions to go away but we have supplies with us, a bed & fridge full of food.
The dog’s pretty happy too
Shits getting real!
Must be on it's way then, we're 15 miles north east of you and it's still pretty calm although it is now snowing heavily and settling which wasn't supposed to happen until much later tonight.
Emirates 1 Qatar 0
That Heathrow stream is ruining my already rock bottom productivity 😀
Chuff me, kudos to anyone piloting anything today. 😳

yeah that was beautifully done! Emirates and BA showing how it's done
Shits getting real!
Totally calm here in Tod. Although we do have some torrential sleet. 🤷🏻♂️
Update - local authority have told my wife to go home at 1pm - at peak of storm. 20 mile drive across the new forest. Muppets!
And another road closed with fallen power line near her so looking even more unlikely she'll be going home any time soon.
Met office saying a gust of 122mph recorded on the IoW! Crazy times.
Radio 4 just now. "Orange warning in place for most of the UK, everywhere from the M62 corridor, South" 🙄
About that webcam...
Had to do a small bit of tree work on my way to get lunch in brecon.
Happy i keep my folding saw in the car from night rides
That Heathrow stream is ruining my already rock bottom productivity 😀
Same here 🤣🤣🤣
Live feed at Heathrow...
Edit - sorry didn't realise it had already been posted 🙂
yeah it's brilliant, great commentary 🤣That Heathrow stream is ruining my already rock bottom productivity
And through all this, the neighbours still have their ****ing wind chimes up. Honestly.
That one bounced a bit!
Some Air Portugal passengers gonna be seeing their chiropractors first thing.
**** me! the 'oversteer' on that singapore air one
From the BBC website:
Do not put yourself at risk to take selfies during the storm, warns James Instance from Cornwall's Falmouth coastguard.
"Your life is not worth a photograph," he says.
Surely he's got that the wrong way round? Shouldn't it be "A photograph is not worth your life"?
someone shouting we’re all going to die!
That was just at check in...
Cabin doors to manual
“Orange warning in place for most of the UK, everywhere from the M62 corridor, South” 🙄
Half of the UKs population apparently lives in this circle.
https://www.markpack.org.uk/153933/where-does-half-of-the-uks-population-live/
Add in Sheffield, Manchester, Bristol, half of Birmingham, Liverpool, and the entireity of Wales, and I can see a decent argument for "most" - by population, not land.
My mate flies for a living, on a trip with him one time after a robust landing he descibed it as 'positive'
A few positive landings today, but as he said, as long as you can use the plane again afterwards It counts as a good'un.
Reports on BBC news just that large chunks are being ripped off the Millennium Dome roof!
The approach controllers and flight planners are working hard today. Lots of diversions. Lots going up to Newcastle. One BA from Chicago to Heathrow gave up and diverted to Geneva.
Most pointless guy in the building is my smoking shelter buddy who's the LC tower controller. Zero movements. Quiet shift for him.
Just had a powercut at the hospital. It's back up and running now
Just spoke to my partner who couldn’t stop laughing, she was looking out the window at a woman walking 2 dogs, one a small bug eyed yappy thing that the wind had picked up, she was trying to reel it back in with the retractable lead!
I asked how high of the ground it was? “Nearly a meter”!?

My sister in law in Sussex has just reported watching her greenhouse door going past the kitchen window......
Spire of St Thomas Church in Wells, Somerset just got taken off, seriously hope no one was underneath that when it fell. :-O
Think the eye wall has just passed through in Tod. Was totally still 5 mins ago and now the trees are starting to bend. I'd go out on the bike if I didn't have work meetings. ☹️
Wind has now arrived in Chester - picked up quite quickly.
Stuck on a train at Berkhampstead, trees & trampolines on the line, no idea when bus replacement will be appearing.
All for my postponed work Xmas lunch
A 'positive landing' for the Isle of Wight ferry too 😯
Well, your typical Scottish coastal house gets subjected to this regularly and is essentially battle-hardened already. The chimney stack is probably pretty solid because if it weren’t it would have blown over during any of the storms that winter. And if it looked ropey some local would have gone ‘oh that needs some attention before the winter’.
So we're saying that not only is property more expensive in the South, it's not built or maintained to the same standards either?

I do hope this happened to them

Mumbles head gusting 75mph, doesnt feel anything special in suburban swansea though.
Feel a bit foolish tidying up the garden yesterday now!
It’s pretty windy just west of you…. Wind gone WNWish now though.
I commend your optimism in boarding the train in the first place, not sure I'd have bothered!!Stuck on a train at Berkhampstead
that last ba plane was an ornithopter !!!
Barely windy here in HD6, just north of the all important M62. Little disappointed 🙂
So we’re saying that not only is property more expensive in the South, it’s not built or maintained to the same standards either?
Yes, we know its shit down south, don't rub it in.
It's not the landings that freak me out, it's watching the planes still getting blown about once they're on the ground, that's crazy
Millenium Dome's owners stuck on hold to the insurance because all the operators are busy watching the planes.
So we’re saying that not only is property more expensive in the South, it’s not built or maintained to the same standards either?

Hmmm. I know we don’t get Western Isles levels of wind… but some areas down south aren’t exactly sheltered either.

Not even 1/3 of the country! Its the same as ever - hits the south east its important. Hit anywhere else in the UK its not

weather unusual in a heavily populated area more interesting than weather which regularly occurs in sparsely populated area shocker, more at 11

So you've got people in Scotland saying this is normal and stop making a fuss; and also people in Scotland complaining that no-one's making a fuss about it.
Make your mind up.
BOSH! now trending no.2 on Twitter.
Just kicked up a couple of nothces here in south Manchester.
Hmmm. I know we don’t get Western Isles levels of wind… but some areas down south aren’t exactly sheltered either.
And the Southerners are so miserable they've no sense of humour 😉
you'd be miserable if you were paying £3k/month rent on a garden shed
😉
And the Southerners are so miserable they’ve no sense of humour
Because some posters aren't intending it to be humorous maybe
Just starting to blow in HD7.
I've just watched next door's hen lay the same egg twice.
Make your mind up.
My mind is made up - its the old classic "its only important if it happens in the south east"! Its also ignoring a large part of the english population
It can both be this and fuss over nothing - it often is with weather events
Windgust at the needles is provisionally strongest ever in England... is that south enough for you TJ?
