Power off in the neighbouring villages, they've been told not to expect reconnection until tomorrow afty. Commute across the Humber Bridge could be interesting tomorrow morning.
Been over West Wales today dropping loads of road edge diseased ash before the wind got up and caused issues with our felling.
Just as we were packing up, heard the sound of a fairly large tree self destructing in the woods opposite. That can wait for tomorrow was the group decision.
Bit breezy in Sherwood Pines Center Parcs…
Could have picked a better week to visit a forest based holiday village…hope the van is OK in the car park…
Walked part of the Mawddach estuary earlier and it was blowy with a very high tide, the electric just flickered off for a little bit
Thankfully where our rental cottage is is very sheltered and not in range of any big trees but there are definitely some strong winds out there
Be grateful you don’t live in NW Germany – they’re going to get both storms over the next few days
That’ll be after we down here in the South-west get them, then. Yellow warning right across my area, possibly upgrading to amber. Bloody windy at the moment.
Well it was a brisk 20 miles pedal home with a tailwind tonight 🙂 Made up for the slog into work this morning. Wind both ends of the day was surprisingly warm.
@houns please only post in your Black Country accent, makes me feel home sick for my childhood if that makes sense. It’s the greatest accent in the UK. Used to be able to tell the difference between Halesowen, Lye and Stourbridge, happy days.
Windy here but it’s often windy. Had a great ride down wind along the beach with no pedaling on fat bike and back via shelter of the woods. The beach felt too short.
Still quite blowy here in Newcastle, but when I refreshed the Met Office forecast, the wind speeds for today have dropped a little compared with what was previously forecast.
No more damage in our garden. I learnt some of the sleepers we bought at the weekend to make raised beds up against the fence on our windward side, so they're pushing it into the wind. It's fairly solid, but was moving quite alarmingly in the bigger gusts, so a bit of extra support seemed a good idea.

Move it before Friday.....
Nothing really to note in the Scotch central belt. Wee bit windy but that's about it...
It missed us, as will Friday and Monday.
Bit wild and windy here. But place appears to still be standing and we still have power. However the storm has cancelled an interview I was due to do on the R4 Today Programme this morning!
80mph+ gusts forecast here on Friday which is also bin day... tempted not to put them out as i'll only end up collecting the contents from the other end of the road at some point. High Peak, Derbyshire. My house is extremely exposed from 3 sides too. I think it's going to be interesting!
However the storm has cancelled an interview I was due to do on the R4 Today Programme this morning!
Ooh, do we need autograph books at the ready? 😜
Yep, survived the night although it was pretty wild at times. We won't be here Friday, so guess we'll see what we come back to (probably binageddon)
Well that didn’t come to much for here.

Humblebrag 😜
Yesterday's peak gust wind speeds in km/h
The picture is a little distorted in that many weather stations are at exposed coastal locations or at high elevations ..... but you get the gist
Based on that map above, it was winder here than I realised!
Ooh, do we need autograph books at the ready? 😜
Yeah please. And I’m going to ask Mark to change my username logo to a crown 😝
Humblebrag 😜
Well it was a bit more interesting than bin updates 😂
Tbh, as a climate change scientist, press is part of the job.
That map's got it at 89km/h where we are.

I assume there's a list somewhere of where they are? I'd be interested to know where the nearest one to us is (although I can take a guess)
Will there be a book tour to trail centres and top gravelly bikepacking locations ?
@IHN - the coverage on the map is not comprehensive so your nearest meteo station may not be in it.
Go to the map and hover your mouse over the value. It will tell you the station name and elevation

The metric you need is spitzenböen (Tag) - peak daily gust
Edit: 89 was Rostherne, the 85 was near Leek but at 299m

The other easy thing to go is look at your local MetOffice forecast. Underneath there is a link to ‘last 24 hours’ and it will give you the nearest observations.
El - definitely not trail centres… 😛
Yesterday was a bit interesting in my attic workroom, on the side of a hill.
Worried that Friday is going to do some actual damage to the workroom roof, which is a conservatory style on top of the house (don't ask what the previous owners were thinking). This is going to be replaced in the summer with something more sturdy, to keep the warmth in, the cold out and not leak or be noisy in wet weather.
Off to batten down the hatches later.
rd2 is shaping up to be a bit wild in the SW. some of the storm surge forecasts for the severn estuary could be a bit floody...
Very rarely get much wind here in Cambridge, but the neighbour was just up a ladder removing their parasol from our kitchen roof!
Now I'm wondering if there is too much stuff in my attic and if the rafters will finally collapse on Friday.

based on prior form, isnt now a good time to start taking the roof apart to fix it 😉
Bit blowy in NE Derbyshire last night but no damage locally that I can see. I have to say that I'm getting a bit tired of the wind. Feels like constant 30mph winds for the last 3 weeks or so and set to continue well into next week. With a short intermission of 80mph gusts for a bit on Friday. I'd love some cold, frosty and still mornings!
That map’s got it at 89km/h where we are.
Ooh if it’s Top Trumps we’re under the 106 next to Arran.
The fence at the end of our garden has come down, grumpy neighbour is already on the case with arranging someone to come and repair it apparently 🙂
Flood defences were being put up along the Severn in Bewdley yesterday.
if the winds track as forecast and coincide with high tide, they're going to need it. I saw a forecast for 1.5-2m surge on top of the tide, plus high river input as well.

We've lucked out. We had two rows of rotten old fencing before last year. We took down one side as part of our garden refresh last year and still haven't put it back so there's nothing to blow down. The neighbour has just had her garden done and ended up accepting that the old fence was hers and a fresh new one has just gone up.
Worrying about the fence, the associated mess and destruction and the addition of a new large DIY job was keeping me up every windy night!
Only issue now (assuming the roof doesn't collapse due to the stuff in the loft) is the electricity meter cupboard door has a broken catch. The cardboard I stuffed in there to jam it closed didn't hold last night and I had to go out and replace it. I need to get to B&Q today for a new door.
Epic ride out last night (down South), got up to 29 mph on the flat on a 140mm full sus, thanks to that tailwind!! Luckily it was on the way home, ride out wasn't as easy 🙂
If anyone likes looking at windy maps I can very strongly recommend having a look at the link below. I'd quite happily look at this even when there isn't a storm going on:

You can use the controls on the lower left of the screen to recall historical data so you should be able to get a decent view of what was going on yesterday.
