Decided to bin off any riding as it would be just hellish.

The annoying thing is I normally ride on a Saturday morning (bright blue sky and sun), but the wife’s weekend shift came up as yesterday so I ended up doing all the kids activities.

Bollocks.

Power has just gone off here.
Annoying. Might go check on the neighbours in a bit to see if it's the whole row that's out or just something more local.

Dunno how my daughter slept through that!

I find absolutely nothing more conducive to a long, deep, peaceful sleep that it blowing an absolute gale outside.

I finally woke up this morning sore from just how much sleep I'd had

just back in from bootcamp, one road closed with police car and blue lights in the distance - hope it's not a tree on someone.

Bootcamp was fun - outward sprints into a gale with rubber resistance bands and a jockey; jog back with wind behind felt like running on a travelator, four strides to cover what took 40 in the other direction!

@zippykona - might be interesting to see if/when any snow arrives, though I'm not expecting much of that until after dark.

Dropped laddo off in Ripley this morning, nothing but dead branches down on the more urban route up. Came back a bit more cross country, one road closed with a tree, the nearest alternative only just passable. Did get my message read out on local radio though!

The cbk-haylingisland/webcam is usually pretty good for def and band width, gets fogged up with rain sea spray sometimes and no windscreen wiper

It's like there's a solar eclipse in progress here in Salford. Really dark. Rain is heavy but the wind seems to be calming. Weather warning in place until 21:00 so we'll see what happens.

Edit : alarm went off again at 10:59. 49 mph gust.

Felt from the big shed roof is now longer on the big shed roof. Emergency tarp action inside. Not too much coming in yet. Mate coming over with his big ladder in a bit.

That’s going to be a fun time making emergency repairs in this wind and rain…..

Gauge levels starting to look nasty all over the place. Gauges at Glenridding and Staveley well above historic highs. Stay safe everyone.

Our neighbours wouldn't think to tie down their trampoline, however their yard is sort of protected by a big hedge. If it lifts up and damages my greenhouse, I will be a very unhappy bunnyhop.

One fence panel has gone in our garden and another has lost the top.
The bird feeder stand is at a precarious angle, also our pond had small waves on it.

3 fence panels, next doors BBQ and a hanging plant they had on one of the posts destroyed so far.
The two adjoining posts I've reinforced with unistrut but the gusts seem to be increasing in strength.

GFs sister lives in Tennessee and their town was pretty torn up by this storm.

Had an interesting night. Got a Cave Rescue shout at just before midnight. Empty roads and horizontal rain all the way over to the call-out site. Then spent an hour from 1.30 till 2.30 on top of the hill (at about 1800 feet) in my waterproofs while trying to get comms with the underground team. Of course I didn't have a tent or shelter of any kind and it was properly exposed. Only thing I could do was to lie flat out on the grass with my head inside the Pelican box that holds the communication device. I was pretty glad to get the call to come back down to the hut. Was definitely a night where being underground would have been the better option 🙂

Overdue group found OK and helped out safe and sound

I was thinking that it was all an overreaction sat here in Northumberland following strong winds and a bit heavy rain it’s now pretty much gone. Then I seen Facebook posts of friends in Calderdale and just caught the news. Holy crap that’s pretty bad.

Calder/Irwell/Ribble/Wharfe catchments are getting hammered.

I'm hoping that the level in Mytholmroyd is a mis-read.

Similar here, but it's apparently due to worsen later.

12.11 Lat.: 45°10'N / Lon.: 14°41'E / Altitude: 14m

If I had paid to watch this storm I would be asking for my money back.
East Devon coast has bit of a breeze with gusts coming through.
Forecast showing 'peeps' later so might talk a walk down to the prom and watch the waves unless the snooker is worth watching.

A good few years ago I was living out in LA, the local news there was somewhat different to ours. Earthquakes, forest fires, drug and gang related murders most nights, live hostage taking. Then coming back to England, local news was about an old lady’s fence had blown down and she’d lost her cat. This thread has brought back some amusing memories.
It’s windy and rainy here in the Midlands, nothing too bad though. Bins get collected tomorrow, so do I risk leaving them out or not? Decisions decisions.

The river Irwell has burst its banks in Ramsbottom. Sandbags are out and all the lower level stuff is underwater. Same as Boxing Day a few years ago. It’s going to get worse too. Constant heavy rain forecast for days

I’ve just come over Barton Bridge in horizontal rain like I’ve never seen. Traffic was down to about 10mph and you just couldn’t see a thing. Absolute deluge! Came off the motorway and parked up for a bit as it genuinely felt too dangerous to carry on. Never driven in conditions like that

If it’s the same as here (which it usually is), then we’re in for severe flooding. There are roads closed here already as they’re impassable.

The road outside our house is covered in debris that’s run off the moors. It was like a river a couple of hours ago.

Intermittent power cuts here in Macc. Other than that it has been okay. Windy on and off and the same with the rain. Roof leaking (which it has been for ages) is the only downside.

Hope everyone from here who live in the W.Yorkshire hills are okay? Know how bad it can get from growing up in the area.

They’re starting evacuating areas around the River Irwell in Ramsbottom and Bury now. The river is now higher than it was a few years ago on the Boxing Day floods, which brought bridges down and caused huge amounts of damage

Local farmers trying to clear it now.

Relatively calm and clear here now. About lunchtime it was as though someone had flicked a switch to turn off the torrential rain and howling wind.

A few minor bits of flooding on some of the road dips, a couple of branches off a few trees but nothing too serious. The river level is very high but it's in a steep gorge so it gets all the run off very quickly, there's no actual flood danger.

Things look pretty awful in Mytholmroyd. 🙁

No, that joke was the one before mine.

West Northumberland seems to been hit harder than the east, some heavy flooding. There’s some rivers bursting their banks on the east side now but not as serious just yet.

Worry not my friend
Its still standing , however the plastic wrap is in tatters
been gusting over 50kn all day with the occaisional foray into the 60kn area
I have not been near my windows as the tin sheets would be straight through given the wind direction
Still think the bloke is some sort of fat moron though
I cant park on my land due to deed clause that allows a turning are and garage access for loading / uloading but he seems to think its ok for his fat famlly to park there as its not needed for turning as they reverse down and turn where they are not supposed to
He also told me , when planning his mega roof extension it would be ' around 1mtr higher ' Its 2.8mts higher . Do you think i am an idiot who cannot use a scale rule?

'We've got 5 kids and 8 grandadkids between us, and I want the whole family to be able to come round and stay ' was his pitch . He has a garage full o shite , and parking for 2 cars . He spent £550k on a bungalow with 3 beds and 2 parking spaces , plus another £100k to extend the roof up, so 5 bed and 2 parking spaces and I know he thinks it will be fine if all his tribe descend and park on my driveway ( he only has access over and under and a turning area ) , well he can think again . I am not allowed to park on it , deeds etc so he certainly isnt , and I own the land but cannot park infront my garage , as its the designated turning area .
Which lardy bully boy doesnt even turn using as its tight, so turns down the drive in my parking area
You those bulky guys who use their mass to intimidate , yep he's one of them

Anyone in the Preston/Ribble Valley area?

I need to get to Whittingham from Burnley tomorrow morning. Usually go through Simonstone, Read, Whalley, Copster Green, Ribchester and Longridge.

Alternative is M65,M61,M6 and off at junction 32 (M55 Blackpool exit).

Any idea which of the two is likely to be more realistic?

Well, managed to get back only to find that I've been flooded out again. That's the 3rd time in as many years and enough for me, tomorrow sees that start if a new place to live that doesn't flood every winter when it rains hard.

Caldervalley is a lovely place, but I'm done.

Just generally windy in Cardiff, drive up to see my folks in Ludlow and back and it was fine bar a few small trees down in the countryside (one blocking 2 lanes of the M4 though).

Binners that looks awful.

Got off relatively lightly here despite some meaty gusts and sideways rain. Definitely the vilest day I can remember for a long while. A few broken panels and posts on a fence that's done 10 years +.
