On a normal bike front wheel out and spin bars 90 degrees and it sits flat again the wall of the shed.
Obviously you can't do this with full guards , so I have to take the guard off and store as above.I  could loosen the stem and spin bars  but having to tighten them up every time I  want to ride down to the shops would be a faff. I'm also paranoid about stem tightening regarding slippage v steerer snap.
What we really need is a QR stem or some other cunning plan. I can't store the bike standing up.
How do you do it?

You need a bigger shed op.
Cut a small hole that the mudguard can stick through.
Or more likely can you store vertically /hand from roof by front wheel) or with bars high and mudguard in roof/roof apex

No, don't be silly. Obviously you need another bike that doesn't have mudguards thus removing the issue with faff of turning handlebars for a pootle to the shops.

It's what I've opted for due to similar issue with vertical space due to an overcrowded shed..
but having to tighten them up every time I want to ride down to the shops would be a faff.
I have my bars tight enough not to move during riding, but tight enough to twist by pushing strongly whilst holding the wheel (this also reduces forces going through things during a crash). the one bike that is stored at the end (wheels on) just has the bars turned then turned back again when I want to ride. no tightening needed.

A seat collar QR is M6, same as many stem clamps.
The "just tight enough" idea sounds good also.
