We bought a huge (5*25m) roll of carpet from an outlet but can only lay it after some building work is done, which will take who knows how long. 2-3 months?

They won't hold it for long. Any ideas for where can I store such a thing in/near Salford? Tried a self store place but they want £100 per week as it'll need a huge space... are there any that do custom sizes, ie 5m long but thin?

My garage is 4.9m, kind of annoying.

How wides your garage..... If it's 4.9 long it's diagonal will be longer.

Do you need all 5 meters?

Failing any other suggestions you could ask a local carpet warehouse if they would store it for you for a nominal fee?

Round our way you can rent out a 22 ft shipping container in a self service storage yard for about £100 per month. Possibly overkill but may be a cheaper option that what you’ve found so far if it really won’t fit in your garage.

Cut it into carpet tile sizes – it will have the added benefit of then being much easier to lay and, as a bonus, any leftovers can be stored and used to replace any damaged tiles in the future.

Tried folding it in half length ways, then either rolling or folding it loosely? Won't be pretty, but won't be 5m long

Don't fold it. It will never lie flat.

Does the 5m roll need to be 5m wide when lain? Lop 10cm off it and stick it in your garage.

Some suggested folding it, for that differential would you get it in the garage with a slight curve?

Taking a slice off the end of the roll is an interesting idea... it has to be a bit more than 4.5m I think so we might be able to lose a small amount.

Not sure if diagonally would work at full length due to the width of the roll and the garage corners. It must be half a metre wide at least. Anyway it's a manky leaky cobwebby old garage so the carpet would have to be properly wrapped. Maybe the outlet could wrap it before delivery, dunno.

Folding or bending it then leaving for any length of time would probably kill it.

Tried some local carpet places but they've all said no so far.

Wrap it in 1200 gauge visqueen any old shit, seal the sod tight with good tape, and leave it outside?

Or laminate the room.

Be about 400mm of flex by my maths, which is actually quite a lot to flex a 25m roll by, it'll be about 700-1000mm thick I'd think. (very much a guess) and if it flexes it'll be on or in a tube to stop it buckling and being ruined during handling.

More to the point, how is the op intending to move that?
[s] Google suggests 2.5 to 9kg/msq
At the bottom end that's 320kg of big awkward lump. At the heavy expensive end that's 1100kg.
On delivery it'll need forking off of a curtain sider for starters. [/s] oddly the Google results are for American carpet which seems to weigh more at 5-20lb per sq yd.

HSE say 120-420kg,that's still a *big* heavy lump

Thinking outside the box, any large local theaters, they'll be used to storing big props. Or a farm with a reasonably dry barn. Small airfield with plane hangars. Obviously all would want paying or a donation, but no harm to ask.

5 X 25m if going to be properly heavy.
How are you going to move it from any storage place?

Lay it underneath the old one??

It'll be nice and flat, protected and you won't have the hassle of moving it and laying it afterwards..

Cancel the order and go back once the building works are done

Is it not traditional to use it to wrap up the dead bodies before dumping in the canal?

Completely seal it in polythene, tape up the ends. Encase it in more polythene, and more tape. Make it utterly watertight then store it in the garden under a tarpaulin.

do not do this.

I would give serious consideration to this:

Cancel the order and go back once the building works are done
