new bifolds fitted pedestrian door can get caught with the wind and a chance it will damage itself on the brick work. no chance kids will remember to put a stop in the way or put it on a latch

I've seen magnetic catches on some doors. anyone know where they can be bought? do they hold quite heavy doors?

We've got two strategically placed planters, that are actually plastic so a slight 'give' and softer than the patio doors. They contact the door frame, not the glass.

our came with some magnetic blocks that were screwed to the outside, looks a bit nasty when closed, but when open it holds the doors together enough to require 'a good tug' (quiet at the back) to separate them

The pedestrian door on ours just folds back onto the next panel where it's held with a magnetic catch.

Planter sounds like your solution there OP.

Same arrangement on ours, and its scary that its not been considered in installation. its a wide 1.2m ish wide, 2m tall door, and the brick contacts maybe 40mm from the hinge, so loads and loads of leverage One stiff breeze and its game over, i reckon the door would snap (as its structutally mainly glass)
.ours open on to decking, so i drilled two 20mm holes in the deck in the right place and made some big pegs. One behind the door never gets removed, and one to go in front when its open. You do have to remember to do it though.
You could fit your magnetic latch thing to a planter, i guess.

I've seen these which look quite good, website seems a bit home brewed though which doesn't inspire confidence

I've got some of those from doorstop world and they have a rubber bumper on them and a bit of give, so very good at stopping the doors swinging open and smashing on a wall, however the supplied magnet is a bit weedy and they close quite readily.

@pieface thats useful to know - did you fit one top and bottom? Did you have to drill your new doors to fit a magnet on them?

I only fitted one at the bottom but 2 might work better. I had to drill a small hole in the door to fit the magnet, but its no issue
