There's a big difference between making a film of a book and a series of a book. So that's allowed IMO.

Well out of that list none will take any harm of being remade as they were all shite.

"Lana is a true visionary - a singular and original creative filmmaker - and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter"

Or to put it another way “From the people who brought you Jupiter Rising and Cloud Atlas.”

I actually quite enjoy the loonacy of the Warchowskis' recent output. Cloud Atlas is one of my favourite 'it's so bad it's good' movies!

It's not a remake - it's The Matrix 4.

(Thread is about remakes, not sequels, you see)

What? The Tim Robbins one?

@Drac re: Dambusters - my mate reckons he’ll make it into a three part epic with lots of lingering shots of the crews being trucked across Scampton to dispersals.

I wasn't aware of this until recently....

I don't think you can make a bad movie better by just remaking it....

Another Rambo film, I could get behind. I mean, it's been diminishing returns since First Blood so meh, yet another brain out action flick.

But remaking The Princess Bride though? That's a very very bold notion indeed. That will go one of two ways and I suspect it'll be the Not Good one. About the only person I can think of that might possibly get away with it is Joss Whedon.

True. FB was a very good, post-war drama. The rest were just wham bang boom films. Fun, but not in the same space as First Blood.

Took my little girl to see the Aladdin remake at the cinema last weekend.

Fair play to Will Smith for having a crack at it but Robin Williams is a hard act to follow and it just lacked the 'zing' and fun of the original. I thought a proper comedian with a distinctive voice like Chris Rock, Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell might have done a better job.

A plodding pace too in a few parts and it doesn't help that the way they've animated the animals means they completely lack emotion. Poor casting too for the other characters I thought. My littlun completely lost interest by about 2/3s of the way through.

The only good part was the carpet, and that was no better than what was in the original.

First Blood is a great film and all the others (especially 3) are firmly in so bad it’s good territory. New one looks a bit like Home Alone on a farm without Joe Pesci.

Oh Frak Cylons are returning
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/...robot-creator/

The new show will be "an updated, more modern look at the world" based on the 2004 edition, THR says, not the 1978 original. The show will be helmed by Sam Esmail, who is best known as the creator of Mr. Robot. The final season of Mr. Robot will be airing this fall, freeing Esmail up for other projects. He will reportedly also be heading up two other series for the streaming service, including an adaptation of the classic 1927 film Metropolis.
In a tweet posted after this story was originally written, Esmail clarified that the show is not a straight remake but instead something of a spinoff, "because... why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!"

I would look at the PB remake the same way as ghostbusters... you already have a nigh-on perfect movie, the remake can only ever be worse, what’s the point?! (I mean, money obviously, But artistically... why would anyone respectable take it on?)

i hear they’re making a sequel to the greatest movie of all time, Coming to America! not sure how i feel about this…
he’s not as funny as he used to be, but at least it will have (and be written by) Eddie Murphy (and Arsenio Hall). Plus... Wesley Snipes! Who is actually cooler than ever now IMO!

Lori Petti was a pretty good fit for Tank Girl I thought, the rest of the film was a little odd, but still not a bad match to the graphic novels. I'm not likely to forgive them for using SA80s as the "futuristic" guns though.

Will Smith, Kevin Hart to Star in ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ Remake

FFS indeed! Just why? The original is a brilliant comedy if you stop it ten minutes from the end. Watch it all and it’s unbelievably sad.

Should have tried harder in history.

There were black people in Britain around the time of the Romans

Aye, maybe around the ports but in Sherwood forest 😕 I think not.

But I wonder if they are remaking these films to remove non PC elements from it 😕

I watched this a couple of nights ago. Not sure why. Was as bad as you'd expect - I was hoping for something more along the 'ageing warrior' stuff, but it was Expendables rather than Creed.

Low class Taken coupled with Home Alone, the last third making the home defence bit of Skyfall look classy and realistic.

There have been remains found in Fairford in Gloucestershire dating about 900-1200AD of that of a black woman in her 40's (I think) probably a slave. Black folk in medieval England were more common than most folk think.

I feel for folk trying to make Batman films. You're never going to meet the expectations of lots of the audience, who only ever want the Batman that exists in the head to made into a film...You're always going to piss someone off.

At least the baddie appears not to be the Joker this time.

TBH it's quite hard to tell from that trailer, and yet another Batman reboot? Really?

I mean the Nolan batman movies were only ten minutes ago, and were pretty good. Can't we just wait a minute?

I kind of want them to let the joker be, the character had lots of potential as played by Heath Ledger (which can't really be realised now) and the Joaquim Phoenix 'Joker' was a good exploration of a possible origin story... But I can't help thinking the bar has been set a bit too high and a bit too recently and they're going to balls it up...

You're going to love The Flash solo film when that comes out then. Looks like it's going to feature both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, both playing different versions of Bruce Wayne.

Something, something... multiverse...

Yes I grant you that there was indeed the possibility of slavery, but more bonded labour as this was the feudal era.99% of bonded slaves would be white. A black slave would be something exotic, and not be as common as you suggest, a rare sight, and then only in the company of a lord or merchant class, although having a black manservent didn't become fashionable until the 17th century.

A single skeleton of someone who died are the very old age of 40+(old indeed in the poor classes, unless food was good and that again points to the owner being wealthy, and the 'staff' reasonably well cared for. I expect where the remains were found would play a part in determining who her servitude was with.

All tha said, with the portrayal being a Muslim, that would play out, in the role of a friend to a crusader, as Africa beyond the north was quite uncharted, and slavery a common practice int he Ottoman Empire. Someone from abroad in that role would likely be of similar portrayal, but the same horror and shock reaction from the public would remain, because black or people from outside the UK or even Europe would be very very uncommon in the 12th or 13th century.
