Stompy had an ad. in the new classified section, a clearout with a fair selection of bits at not unreasonable prices. I, along with others registered an interest on the ad. After a day or so with no response I pm'd Stompy and have still had no response. I have just checked back to the ad. and it's gone, vanished. What's going on?
I'm beginning to wonder if it's me. I recently tried to buy a set of forks from someone on Pinkbike and after the first contact where the guy confirmed the steerer diameter I got no response to a request for other photos (primarily to check he actually had the forks) as there was only one on the ad.
After repeatedly leaving messages on the ad I flagged him as a potential scammer and sent him a message to tell him what I had done and why. He immediately got back to me thanked me for flagging him and said "surely it was up to him whether he responded or not and the forks had been sold anyway", I replied "no that's just bad manners". Just checked and the forks are still up for sale.
Also, bit of a busy time of the year to be expecting rapid responses from anybody.
Also, flagging someone as a scammer because of poor communication or bad manners is a bit of a dick move.
I replied to Stompys post and got a promp response, and it was to say the item was sold so he is replying.
No not that one Cdoc also I'll use my own judgement regarding potential scammers thanks. Is suggesting something is a "dick move" now the standard keyboard warriors remote response to every as situation or just the tosspots?
So, someone’s not got back to you within 24hrs on a day where most people are either hungover, spending it with family or out on a ride?
I would politely request you wind your neck in and be patient, princess.
Obviously I've not made it plain when this was but its not in the last 48 hours. Also if you post an ad regardless of when, surely you would be looking for responses and be happy to deal with them. Standards of service in UK are always such a let down.
Service? It’s a classified ad from an individual, what service should he be providing you?
Just out of interest, how did this perceived scam work? Was he going to persistently ignore you until you paid him to reply?
Pinkbike is quite unlike here in terms of user attentivness. Sometimes people simply do not reply to some messages, respond in an unhelpful manner or act inconsiderately, but that is entirely their choice.
Even so, thanks for the thinly veiled insults over my suggestion that I felt your solution to the lack of communication was a little dickish, though.
I'm beginning to wonder if it is you as well.
If it helps to calm your boots, Stompy is often on the road between here and Croatia, so he might just be busy.
I come on here for knowledge and advice from peers and comrades but thanks for your input anyway.
Well, I hope that you gained both knowledge and received advice in this thread!
You now know that he may be busy and/or out of the country and due to the time of year immediate replies may not be peoples priority.
I have bought from Tom before without any issue. Just give it reasonable time, but if, for any reason, you don't get a reply, don't sweat it and just move on.
would have been so much more amusing if no one had replied on this thread ☺
If you actually read my original post, forby the Pinkbike bit, what I really wanted to know is how/why the whole ad disappeared from the classifieds.
They only last a couple of weeks in the new classifieds. Not sure if the seller can remove them
Adds mucker to "the list"
Might have been a repeat ad, or it somehow broke the rules, perhaps? Maybe message Stompy to ask? 😉
Standards of service in UK are always such a let down.
If you want “service” you should try buying your bike bits from a shop.
If you report people as scammers because they don’t reply to you on an Internet forum, then I would suggest you are not ready for the online world 👍
Just so you know, scammers usually reply, and ask you to send them your money.
If they ignore you, they either aren’t scammers, or very very shit ones that you don’t need to worry about.

That's just what they want you to think....
No its not just you, in the general case. People can be really bad at responding to messages, ghosting is epidemic, and very often people have no idea what they are selling/can't answer the most basic questions. It can be really bad on pink bike. Some sellers figure the Internet is big enough that they will be able to sell anything given enough time. I think that has changed over the years.
