You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon all, I'm looking for some advice.
My parents ebikes got stolen at the weekend from Halisham, they have been to the police got a crime number and informed the insurance. HERE
After a little looking I managed to find my dads bike on Facebook.
being sold by this chap HERE
Alfie Cale - Feltham works in Halfords
We passed the info on to the Police.
Should I now just leave it and hope the insurance pays out?
Any advice appreciated

That’s probably the easiest way.
They still belong to your parents, so you could just turn up and take off with them.
Depends how confident you feel if the seller was tooled eh.
Take screenshots then notify Feltham Halfords that they're employing a bike thief?
To be honest, the best thing you can probably do is not post about it on the Internet in case he gets wind of it or it creates some sort of justice loophole.
Did the Police say if they would act on it?
As above.
You could pass the information on to Halfrauds and at least he would lose his job.
Or
Let the police do their thing, get the bikes back and then pass the information on to halfrauds and get the scrote fired anyway.
Either way. give him all youve got.
Nicked Hailsham, being sold in Feltham 2 days later. Not a million miles apart but
i/ how sure are you it's your Dad's bike?
ii/ if it's being sold on 2 days later somewhere else that sounds like some kind of organised pass on.
I'd pass details to police and let them 'do their job' (awaits plenty saying they won't)

I'd be amazed if stolen bikes was their highest priority....
Surely no one is stupid enough to sell stolen bikes with their real facebook profile that lists their employer? He only has 5 friends, doesnt look like a real profile if you ask me.
Halfords won’t sack him without him being prosecuted, and even then they would need to find out.
And besides if he loses his job wouldn’t he be more likely to go after more bikes?
Maybe he buys them ‘cheap’ and does them up to sell, after working for Halfords he will be good at maintenance/ repairs
Cheers guys will leave it with the police - its 100% the bike.
Appreciate the advice
Surely no one is stupid enough
🙂
Our local FB cops page is full of stories of local idiots who burgle a shop and leave their wallet on the counter...
after working for Halfords he will be good at maintenance/ repairs
What on earth makes you say that?!?
I mean I've read (and spouted) some utter nonsense on here in my time but that takes the hobnobs quite frankly.

Cynical answer, Hailsham, police already did their job, they provided a SINGLE crime number... 2 bikes nicked but recorded as one for the crime stats.
Feltham police? Assuming the FB profile is correct then they don't have a job to do. It wasn't recorded on their turf... it's unlikely to be a national priority, they get sod all if they do get involved.

If they robbed your house would you expect a different crime number each for the TV, monitor, pc, iPad etc etc?

Had one guy locally who was selling a snow blower he "found" abandoned in the village.
One of the locals posted a screen shot of his feed from the village FB group, with the post saying "who is this man stealing my snowblower, if you return it and make good with the damage you've done, we won't go to the police" directly above the advert selling the stolen snowblower, profile picture of the culprit wearing an identical jacket and distinctive wooly hat as the guy walking the snowblower out of the garage...
It's not the first time he's done stupid stuff like that, and i doubt it'll be the last, once he gets out of prison. (Not for stealing the snowblower i hasten to add!)

Guidance for bikes is to combine them so the stats look better unless they think they'll be recovered.
The same applies to 100 bikes being stolen from an event, they can group them together and have a single theft.
Stealing Bikes isn't considered a real crime anyway, it has it's own sentencing guidelines that make that clear
Offer to buy it, tell police what you are doing, turn up with mates, reclaim stolen bike - or in my case offer nominal sum for it as I didn't have any mates and didn't want a fight on my hands.
Dickyboy - yes, thats the thing to do.
I had similar last year.
Stolen bike was listed on FB Marketplace 3 weeks after being stolen 20 miles away. Police were totally uninterested. So I went round the next day to 'buy it'. I was ready to rip his head off. I informed the Police beforehand that I would be there to collect the stolen bike, and there may be a disturbance. They just said we will arrest you if you assault anyone. Total knobs. As it happened, he didnt put up a fight. He said he was going to call the Police himself, as we were stealing 'his' bike, so we said, no problem, we'll wait until they come. Of course he didnt call them.
Luckily, we started a complaint the next day with the Police. This they did take seriously, and they went round , but found no more stolen bikes (there were 3 or 4 there when we went), he had to go for an interview, and was told to accept a community service order, or go to Court. (we had kept screenshots etc)
He had a £200 fine, and a few hours community service to do.
So a win overall, when originally the Police were not going to do anything at all.
Stop being a wet blanket. Pose as a buyer and go get it back.
Dicky it has it. Did exactly this a few months ago. FB ad, posed as buyer, met bloke at his flat, told Police, no show from them. Looked at bike, confirmed it was mine, came straight with bloke, told him he had bought a stolen bike, it belonged to me, I have title, the person he bought from did not have title to sell to him. Therefore this bike is mine and I’m taking it home with me now. He called police, they did nothing. I put my bike in the car, he felt stupid, and learnt a valuable lesson. Take a friend, make sure they/ you don’t say anything silly or antagonistic. Keep to the script. End of the day if police turn up likely scenario is that bike will be taken by them pending identification, then given to you. Whatever happens it’s not going to stay with the vendor.

When I worked for Kirklees council as a habitat destruction operative (landscaping) some idiot stole a couple of strimmers from a trailer on one of the rounds. Tried to sell them to the guy that ran the round I was on. Defender plus trailer with full Kirklees council livery, four of us with Kirklees branded tops and he tried to sell us stolen goods with KMC written on them.
Criminals are ****ing desperate idiots.

Worth a go but at the same time play it by ear as there are some very nasty people about.
