Last week I asked for help in fixing my internet explorer which you good people advised to install Firefox. This was done and I even managed to move my favourites to FF. Now when I search using Google or Yahoo, the list of potential sites with key words comes up as normal but the URL attached to them is always the same list of totally spurious sites trying to sell me virus protection, insurance and worse, porn, when I click on them it sends the screen into a meltdown of pop ups and screens I can't get rid of. Any thoughts on what I can do to get the search engines working properly again?

Erm, virus/spyware maybe? I'd be giving my PC a full health check!

Yup, you need to get some anti-spyware software (from a legit site)

Spybot - Search & Destroy is recommended
