Social history, decent music and people in silly clothes - what more could you want?

This sort of 'popular' culture is so important to what makes me feel 'English' - how real people used to live their lives and celebrate important events.

Oh, and a healthy sense of the absurd, too 🙂

Watched on iPlayer and enjoyed it. Rarely is Englishness 'allowed' an opportunity to express a grass roots cultural identity as distinct from Britishness (with all its associated baggage of empire etc).

I'd be up for it 🙂
It would be nice to see that revived all over the place, rather than rubbish May day fairs that are basically Hot dogs and tenner-a-go bouncy castles.
I'm sure the local Chopper Club around here does Morris dancing?

Is the clog factory still in Hebden Bridge?

Nope, Walkleys closed down a few yrs ago. They tried to move away from simply being a manufacturer of footwear to becoming a tourist 'attraction' - it bombed horribly.

Pity, i've still got a pair of clogs from there - my first NMA footwear in fact, would love another set of Para clogs though! 😆
