Had no idea...

Does seem like the whole place could do with modernising a bit!

As MPs cannot straightforwardly resign, they instead have to write to the chancellor of the exchequer, asking to be appointed to the Treasury-led position of Steward and Bailiff of the Chiltern Hundreds, which disqualifies them from the Commons.

That is the tip of the iceberg about how shite UK parliamentary traditions and politics are.

Tradition , isn’t it. We can’t change it - look at the fuss from altering the St George’s Cross on a sports shirt!!

Try living in the speakers constituency, where by tradition no one stands against them - democracy my arse.

He added: “A Labour government would be catastrophic for our country.

I had the misfortune of having to deal with that self serving little prick when he was my local councillor. I hope he never works again.

Realistically what happens to these chancers once they have left office, I can see some sitting as advisory director on some dodgy company board but surely this guy and some of the others have no value but they'll be looking to fill that 80k plus benefits somehow.

I am still amazed that one in four of the electorate would still vote for those lying shyster conservatives.

To be fair, it looks nothing like the Cross of St George - if I saw that away from the context of it being in the news, I’d never have known what it represents, and I’m pretty savvy regarding logos, design etc, it was part of my job for over 30 years! It’s possible with the Union flag, that’s a fairly distinctive design that lends itself to reproduction in all sorts of colours, but the St George cross is red on a white background - change the colour, and it’s meaningless. Change the colours of the national flags of France, Germany, Belgium and a few others to monochrome, and they’ve lost their meaning as well.

He was actually appointed to Crown Steward of the Manor of Northstead, the other non-paid crown appointment that they use.

t's one of those archaic things that have no place in modern society or modern law.

What really needs to happen, is, an MP 'resigns', they get a letter of confirmation of the resignation, and that's that.
