Not sure if this has been PSA'd on here before but I've just watched this on BBC iPlayer. A fascinating behind the scenes look at the making of the Le Mans film and the King of Cool.

Linky

Very good indeed.

It is a good watch. I've not seen the film, but the recent Le Mans one is apparently good for a car fan (not sure re a film fan).

I’d put it the other way round, for a car fan it s a travesty. Assuming you mean Ford vs Ferrari.

I’d watch Ford vs Ferrari/Le Mans 66 on mute with subtitles, the “Corr blimey governor pass me a cheese cob and that wrench” Mary Poppins English dialogue clearly written by an American script writer and delivered by Christian Bale and his onscreen family is painful.
I think Bales wife in the film was clearly taking the piss as her accent wanders from Irish to Brummie. My teeth are itching now even thinking about it.

The BBC PSA op linked to is good however.

I thought Bale's accent started in Dorset, then drive fast up to Leicestershire, popped into Derby then ended up somewhere around Walsall. Definitely not a Sutton's Goldfield accent.
The film suffered from constant acceleration and infinite gear changing up.

Watched this last night.

It was pretty interesting.

The main thing I took away from it is that one person's "Focussed, brilliant and resolute creative genius" is another's "Narcissistic, self absorbed and arrogant cock".

The whole Le Mans film for me is an exercise in one man's obsession leading him further and further up his own back passage and bawling out people for not being able to read his mind at that particular moment.

But when the dude smiles that is all forgotten, because he was the King of Cool.

I watched it as soon as I saw beamer's link. I remember watching the film as soon as it came out. I was 16 and had a part time job (serving petrol from the pumps) at a small garage. The boss had a Porsche 365B and 3 of us went in it to see the film. Its as a different film for its day.
As a documentary I thought it was really interesting but there was one thing that struck me was how few accidents there were in the making of it. I read in the auto press of the day on one occasion Jo Bonnier wasn't paying attention to the briefing and when the cars went round a corner onto a straight he thought he could pass a few. Moving out of the line he was confronted by a cameraman lying in the road who was lucky to be terrified enough not to move as the stream of cars passed him to one side and Bonnier went the other. We also forget how dangerous racing was in those days. Jo Bonnier died at Le Mans the following year.
The end result aside I do tend to agree with Dannyh.
