Bummer! RIP.
A huge shame. I loved his work with Pulp. Luckily got to see him live with them. Such a shame for his friends and family.
And I was just saying to my wife the other day how Pulp are under-rated. Great band, great bassist. RIP.
Seen them a few times - the first being at the Leeds Heineken Festival just after they released His n Hers (IIRC). Very sad - I was playing them earlier when making dinner.
Very, very sad. Effortlessly cool and understated on stage, but so fundamental to Pulp. Jarvis Cocker mentions the magic formula they hit upon in his latest book, which was Scott Walker + Barry White + Eurodisco + Gritty Northern Realism = The Future. If you're going to make music like that, then you need basslines to do it justice, and Steve gave us them. His'n'Hers went on loud this evening.
Proper shock that. Seen them several times.
I'm guessing he wasn't previously planning to be in this year's gigs - a while back at least.
Love pulp.
A staple in my life amongst my eclectic taste.
Saw them live a few times. Last in 2011.
Tried to get tickets to the upcoming tour and was in a queue of 10000 people.
Didn't get one. 🙁
Rest easy Steve.
Sad news.
Saw pulp about 27 years ago (IIRC) due to go see them this summer.
