I was searching accomodation in Estes Park Colorado earlier today and the hotel which King used as inspiration for this appeared top of the results....

I didn't know this was on tonight.

King disliked it - Jack wasn't supposed to be potentially lunatic before they even got there.

The author of that stuff on mrb123's link desperately needs a girlfriend/life/something better to do with his time

I got the shining on DVD just as Dr Sleep was released, my son had never seen it and I hadn't watched it in years , we watched it just before going to see Dr Sleep. I thought it was still good and made Dr Sleep much more enjoyable.

Ha, yes he's certainly an obsessive, but then so was Kubrick it appears.

Yes, I think Nicholson is totally miscast and hammy AF, although 'heres johnny' and 'all work and no play..." Are delivered with aplomb

Plus the relationship with his wife is in no way believable

They should have cast an everyman, plain looking (Nicholson has distinctive leading man looks) character actor in the role. Although the here's johnny' poster wouldnt have looked as good

What Kubrick excelled at was seventies interior locations. Room 237 looks like Liberace's hotel suite mixed with the Poseidon adventure

You know there's that extra long version of the Shining that I think only aired for TV.

Can't remember much about it.

King made Maximum Overdrive right? Because he thought he should do one of his stories properly..m

Whilst on the subject of King - The Outsider is fantastic - both the book and the series.

A book and a film have to be enjoyed as separate entities. If you continually judge one against the other, you'll never get the most out of either. That's how I see it anyway.
I'm the same with sequels and remakes, If it's great it's great, doesn't matter what the 1st/original film was like.
(Oh, Doctor Sleep was pretty average)
