You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The other day a friend was asking if you could steer on Zwift*. I'd kind of forgotten that it was a thing - I seem to recall there was more talk about it a few years ago, but I don't get the sense it ever really took off. I've never tried it but I assume the novelty would wear off pretty quickly and after that it wouldn't really add much. Anyone on here have it set up and use it?
*or whatever platform you use
That sounds like it would feel all kinds of 'wrong'. You would have to turn the bars in a completely different way to normal riding because you can't lean and wouldn't be countersteering.
Never felt the need. I think it's meant to be of use while racing (which I don't do, though I have dipped a toe into paced rides recently) and doing 'gravel' loops?
RGT had steering, I only used it a few times. It was ok. You could load the steering ap onto your phone and then either by a very expensive steerer thingy to attach to bars or just use a cheap mount to put it on bars and tilt it. I preferred not steering so was annoyed when it was made compulsory on RGT but then Wahoo bought RGT and shut it down.

not any more. Nowadays the swift controller has a button on each side of the bar to ‘steer’, you don’t need to actually turn the bars
Still sounds completely pointless to me but apparently useful if you race on zwift. Which I don’t..
I heard steering was usefull in real life as well ! LOL.
Download the zwift companion app....you can turn with that....obvs not steering..but ?
Hated the steering on RGT, but miss RGT when it's original owners had it, imo wahoo over priced it on purpose to make more people come over to zwift
Steering is great. Makes the racing more engaging. Negligible difference on some courses but huge difference on say the Crit courses with loads of sharp corners - to the point where you are at a significant disadvantage if you don’t have steering. No point moaning about it tho as it’s not going away!
I have a Sterzo for Zwift. Yes, it's a bit unnatural action but it's handy for drafting, cutting corners on TTs and changing direction at junctions.
Would be happy to buy a set of Zwift Play controllers, but the amount of ongoing issue posts in the Zwift forum are rather concerning.
There's not one specific thread, but there are still regular threads about issues including...
Pairing dropped part way through race
Unable to steer and being stuck in the left/right lane away from the draft of racers not using a steering device
Suggestion by some of sweat ingress
etc.
Some seem to solve issues by keeping Play power cable on while using, others think pairing Play through Companion app is more reliable, but latter isn't practical for me as I use my mobile to run Zwift app itself.
