At some point between me expressing an interest in a steam cleaner and deciding which model Karcher I wanted, my other half did what she normally does and procured something cheap and crappy from Amazon.
A vax something or other. It works, steam comes out and it cleans the floor but my god it's slow. Using the mop head, I have to hold it over one spot for it to actually do anything and trying to use the nozzle bit for the cabinets is unbelievably time consuming. Also, build quality is rubbish and I have to keep tightening a screw in the handle for to actual work.
So, I want something better.
Unless I can find a reason to waft superheated steam at my bike, it'll mostly be used for cleaning the hard floor in the kitchen and bathroom and cleaning/ degreasing the kitchen cabinets and cooker hood. Possible a chain here and there...
Looking at the Karcher range, the more expensive options have a higher powered boiler but I'm assuming that just translates to a faster heat up than more output? The SC3 and 4 both have the same max pressure at 3.5barG so I'm not convinced that spending more is worthwhile.
I'm not stuck on Karcher, anything that works is good for me. Any recommendations on something decent?
For reference, https://amzn.eu/d/7n8Paj i">this is the vax I have.
I had an SC4 - gav it some stick along the way and then it broke - the local repair guy said it wasn't economically viable to fix it.
I have/had the steam iron attachment for it so it could be a backup to my Lauratar steam iron. The steam it produces though is 'wet' compared to the finer and dryer Laurastar, so it is not as good.
Our 12 year old karcher sc2 expired just after Xmas there. - we only have carpets in the bedrooms. So the steam cleaner gets pulled out every other week to deep clean what the pseudo mop on the robovac* can't get.
I wasted no time in replacing it with the compatible new model which is the sc1.2
It's white ....boo.
125 quid at Argos. Time will tell if it's as good as the previous 1. Certainly far better than their consumer grade pressure washers which are toss.
*Flame me but with 2 young kids and no dog.....it's been a godsend for the daily nee hourly crumbs.
I've used a karcher hard floor cleaner on our tiled kitchen floor for the last 6 years.
It's been excellent and doesn't fill the room with pointless steam.
(We also had a cheap steam cleaner and it was crap)
I bought one of these to help someone who is very bad at cleaning (me) clean my new to me filthy house. It creates plenty of filth but I am not sure if that is good or bad ?

I bought an SC5 last year but have only used it once. Mainly wanted it for kitchen cabinet/oven cleaning and bathroom but it didn't really seem to do anything. Certainly didn't shift grease any better than just using a cloth and degreaser. I probably didn't use it right (although was on max setting) but if you're interested and near Bristol I'd flog it cheaply.

Except that it shifted the grease without the use of harsh chemicals which is exactly the point.
