I am organising the summer trip to the Alps and we are looking at staying at Tignes.
I've been there before and from memory the lifts go from the le lac area. I'm trying to book accommodation so just wondered what other areas of Tignes are a reasonable distance from the lifts. We will have a car so can drive bit would prefer to ride from the hotel
Cheers for any help
in my memory (from winter skibus rides) the road between the major bits (le lac & val claret ?) is fairly flat and I'd probably be happy to stay "anywhere" up there and ride to the lifts
Yep, it's a short ride between claret and lac.
Awesome, thanks guys, just opened up a loads more options!
Yup confirm road between the two is pretty flat and past the lake in the summer. Why not look at White Room too ?
Will check out the white room.
Anyone stayed at the La Lavachet area. It seems closer on the map but can't remember whereabouts as it was 5 years since I was last there
Also look at Val d'Isere. Linked with Tignes with lifts/passes and much nicer than Tignes. Both did free lift passes last year and it was quieter over Val way
OP Scott from QECP posted here he had a good riding holiday in Tignes. For me it's a bit soulless and not very Alpine esp in the summer. Val definitely prettier but not sure about the riding. I am biased as although I usually go DIY it's because I don't ride a whole week day-in-day-out. When going for a whole week a guided catered holiday offers so much for the money - in my view it's cheap as you couldn't possibly replicate it for the money.
I was there for 2 weeks last year with the family.
My advice? Stay in Le Breviere, there are free Bike Shuttle buses from Le Brev up to Le Lac every 30 mins or so.
Le Brev is the most scenic of the the Tignes villages.
And most importantly you can finish your riding day with a run down Wonderboisses/Forest Bump/Conduit Forcee and grab a beer in the bar in the village.
I would also heartily recommend staying with the lovely people at Chalet Chardons! http://www.chaletchardons.com/en/home/
Funnily enough I was put there the same time as Scott back in 2012!
Booked in La Lavachet for £310 for the 4 of us for 7 nights.
It will be riding in Tignes, Val D'Isere and Les Arc. Maybe others once I have looked into it further
Been very long time since been to Tignes. Is it still a concrete disaster?
Haven't been there for ages, but I used to live in Val d'Isere and without a shadow of a doubt I'd rather be there than Tignes... Maybe it's changed a lot but Val Claret in particular would have had to change so enormously that I can't believe it has...Also look at Val d'Isere. Linked with Tignes with lifts/passes and much nicer than Tignes. Both did free lift passes last year and it was quieter over Val way
@dk basically yes. As BillOdie's suggestion imo Le Breviere would be the choice for architecture.
I wouldn't be worrying about architecture on a biking trip. Les Brev is a good call but if you want to do the other lake stuff you'd be better off in the higher Tignes "villages".
We are having a long weekend riding in Les Arcs again this year, and fancy the Saturday riding in Tigers/val. Is it worth it?
Are you riding bike park or off piste in LA?
Bit of both, staying in Vallandry. A few of us went last year, so know our way around. The Saturday in LA has quite a few lifts closed, so thinking of a day somewhere else. We were planning the same last year, but there was a lot of late season snow, and the upper Tignes trails were closed early season.
Probably ride the AM trails in Tignes.
