Imo, a pragmatic and good move. Scottish government should support all councils, Forestry and Land Scotland and possibly some private land owners to create some low cost, low facility 'airs' such as France.
Not perfect, full of pitfalls, but might just work...

Agreed.
Reports of some places taking 40, 50 quid a night for a van, doesn't help the current issues. Big campsites remaining closed ditto.

Lots of angry locals continuing to complain about campervan users not spending money in the local economy.
Typical highland welcome stuff.
I think it's a good idea.
Great idea and good to see it extended. I also think that issuing permits for designated areas e.g. National Parks or particularly busy areas would also helpfully generate some income to pay for more facilities e.g. rubbish / toilets / grey water disposal.
I think this could be an assistance particularly in the short term. I would prefer to see a greater emphasis on looking after what are some fairly fragile communities, so Im glad to read that Forest Land Scotland are aware of that risk to local businesses.
I can’t see any locations inside the cairngorm np
No and it's not going to help people along the coast at Arisaig-Morar etc .
I've been doing this for years now. Nice that theyre now officially allowing me to do it

Yup, looks like they're selecting carefully to avoid the obvious places being overwhelmed
Missed opportunity to incentivise folk to go to quieter spots within the park though.
It’s almost as if CNP don’t want to engage with it.

As oldtennisshoes alludes, there is a lot of active and passive resistance to much of this. From campsite businesses who are concerned it will reduce thier income, through to local communities who have put up with dirty campers and struggle to see that not all are irresponsible, through to various quangos and organisations who haven't the vision of what could be.
The thing is, all the concerns they have are legitimate. And this summer has shown that a few idiots ruin it for all and that we aren't going to be able to turn back the tide of visitors. Something practical has to be done, with support and funding at a national level. This is only one of the things that is needed. Imo, we need to work hard to spread the load and the tourism income.
