Where have they all gone?
When I was a kid growing up in West Wales in the 90’s the rock pools were full of whoppers!
Now I’ve just spent the afternoon in the same rock pools in Aberporth and we found two dead ones, less than an inch across, which made my wife and I reminisce.
How sad for everyone.
Lots of wildlife is suffering. Remember the summers past struggling to get the insect carcasses off the windscreen? Doesn't happen anymore.
Chocolate starfish
A metric I've noticed much to my sadness is the decline in butterflies. Such beautiful creatures and I see nowhere near the amount I used to in years past.

I wonder if this has played a part
I have no idea how coastal water pollution today compares with 30 years ago.
God it’s depressing. Along with the evil and twisted brexshit and our self serving, loathsome government.
Yup, there was definitely more insect life, butterflies and bird song as a nipper. And hedgehogs.
Cycling down to my beach, Mwnt, after school in the summer there were these big horrible black dangly legged flies that would get in your eyes and mouth. They’re basically disappeared now I’m in my 40’s.
Ironically it was peak Surfers Against Sewage back then and Aberporth used to pump sewage straight off the beach. Now it’s treated then pumped much further off shore.
The Independent and BBC articles are terrifying. I’m really bloody sad now.
I've been riding motorcycles since the mid 80's. You could gauge the spring arriving by the fact every ride needed a stop to clean your visor of bugs. Summer you would stop a couple of times a ride.
This summer I think I cleaned one or two bugs off in the whole year.
We are well and truly f***ed. No amount of carbon offsetting and cleaning your yoghurt pots before recycling them will make any bloody difference.
The big issue with sea life is its not really seen or noticed, so its being wiped out without a fuss.

They've all migrated to the Peak District moors. I wondered where the buggers had come from.
