Just watched the latest episode of Strange new worlds and they really have boldly gone where no series has gone before.....but I liked it.

Anyone else really liking this season? For me the addition of humour and some decent stories have got the trope back on track from the bilge of discovery and pickard.

Yes enjoying here, the last two really did catch me off guard though, I'd honestly thought I'd changed channel by accident on the cartoon one!  I think they managed the musical one quite well, almost as bonkers as some of the originals..

I'm really enjoying it. The Lower Decks crossover was just joyous (but LD is brilliant anyway). But the Once More With Feeling riff missed the mark for me aside from the blatant callback to OMWF ("bunnies") in the briefing room.

Which service is it on?

Slightly disappointed by clickbait title suggesting there was gonna be a West End show 😀

Shark jumping.

Doctor Who will have a musical episode soon I reckon, now RTD is back and he's a massive Buffy fan which of course did the musical episode too.

Best Star Trek since TNG is The Orville 😏

Though Picard S3 was good.

As someone who is no fan of musicals & initially hated they Buffy one, I now view it as a work of genius, the episode had several big plot pivots that changed the course of the entire show, the plot device of them singing forcing them to reveal what they really thought- the opposite of the like of Voyager where the ship was magically reapaired & reset at the start of each episode

I thought it was a great episode.  I think this is my favourite Star Trek series since the original.  Its available in the UK on Paramount+.

The slow build up to the Klingons scene was worth the wait.

Only got partway in, such is my ‘love’ of musicals. The show has been excellent to this point.

Discovery 1 & 2 were good.

Picard 1 & 2 also.

BNW 1 & 2 even better.

^ mostly agree, although I had issues with S2 of Picard.

I've been loving SNW, cross over with Below Decks is a TV highlight of the year for me. However, I found the musical episode grating. Interesting premise but the songs were garbage.

The Orville is a Seth MacFarlane masturbatory fantasy gone too far.  Vaguely amusing for a couple of episodes, then.. meh.

Trek on telly:

1: TNG
2: DS9
3: OS
4: VOY
5: PIC S3
6: SNW
7: LD
8: ENT
9: DISCO S1/2
10: PIC S1/2
11: DISCO S3 etc

Only watched a couple of episodes of Orville, McFarlane irritates me too much.

The thing with The Orville is, well, you've only watched a couple of episodes. It starts out as a vehicle for knob gags but it gradually shifts tone. By the time you get to New Horizons it's played as straight as any Trek and they're dealing with some pretty deep subjects. It feels to me like McFarlane played a bait-and-switch to get the show he wanted commissioned.

It's very good, but you need to get past the early episodes which were pretty awful. Much like a lot of Star Trek.

So the knob gags were a test? There must have been a lot of people who love Trek who never got past those!
