Car description, well, because this is stw.
So, drop off my son and his girlfriend as they are of on holiday for a week. Pull up to drop off zone, quick goodbyes them I'm off. £4 in change in my sweaty hands ready for the machine at the barrier. Been there well under 10 minutes.
Get to payment barrier. White Audi in front of me with a white van in front of that. Van pulls away after paying at machine and the Audi hangs on his bumper and goes under the barrier with it before it had a chance to close.
Anyway... My turn. Throw money into machine and wait. Nothing. Then look at screen. It wants £21 from me...
After eventually finding out which bloody bottom calls a remote operator on the machine I finally convince them that ive been in the area for less than 10 minutes and they raise the barrier.
Can only think the £21 must have been what the Audi was liable to pay? Right good little stitch up to try on the person behind you, eh?So, is the tailgating to dodge parking charges a "thing" at Stansted??
Did you stil have to pay your four quid?
White Audi = ****badge
Cheers slowcoach !
Sucker, he who snoozes - looses.
💥☄️🤣
Ita not a done thing, just an idiot avoiding a parking fee. Make / Model of car has nothing to do with it.
A quick google says charges are
up to 10 mins - £3.50
10- 15 mins - an extra quid per minute
Over 15 mins - £25
So you've paid £4 of his £25 and the balance was £21.

Could swear it said £4 for upto 10 mins on the signs. Horever, your maths do indeed add up. So basically I may have paid 50p extra... But he saved £25.
What a bar steward eh? They have cameras all over the place but I'm guessing he will get away with that as I should imagine it's not the first time he's pulled the stunt.
Surely ANPR will have the Audi reg recorded on the way in and a penalty charge will be issued to the Registered Keeper for overstaying the maximum time?
That assumes that the Audi has the correct number plate on it.
Risky thing to do, at any rate. The £25 would be insignificant if the barrier had connected with his roof.
Manchester has bus lanes protected by automatic bollards, there's loads of videos on YouTube of people trying to tailgate buses with hilarious consequences.
But it obviously registered the audi already or it wouldn't have charged accordingly.

The person can drive an Audi but does not want to pay the charges ...
Try to invest in a dashcam if possible not because of the current situation but for future.
The ANPR will get the toe rag. You can't beat the system. It will have him as a non payer.
Small Claims Court:-
Once on a press trip to Carrick on Suir, I had no cash and had to follow Sean Kelly out of a carpark in this manner. It was his idea.
Good luck to him if he gets away with it. It boils my piss that we have to pay to drop someone off. Every single way to rip off their customers and they do so. They want us to use the ****ing airport and then make us pay through the nose.

Loses. Loose = opposite of tight. Which is what the Audi driver was being.

This. Any time I've been dropped off at Leeds-Bradford I insist I get dropped off somewhere safe outside the drop off area. If I have to walk 500 metres with a case on wheels so be it.

So it's fine for him to dodge an advertised charge, and lumber the poor guy behind him with at best an argument and at worst having to pay his carpark charge?

Always worth a viewing

They look pretty tough those bollards, and quick too...
These parking rackets take the absolute piss and make people fight and behave like arseholes, who knew!
keep fighting each other boys and girls.
Happens at the tolls in Italy too.
To prevent, a stop as soon as the rear of the car passes the barrier will do it. Although, rear end shunt likely as the rogue will be fully focused on minimising the gap.
On the plus-side, it has a terrible affect on the integrity and shiny-ness of the four rings on the front.
Sadly the rising bollards outside M&S Manchester were taken out a couple of years ago so that particular source of enjoyment has been removed.

NO
You have no idea how much it costs to run an airport, so you have no idea what's fair and what's not. Most of their income (I assume) comes from the airport fees that you bundle into the ticket cost and what airlines have to pay, which ultimately also comes out of tickets probably. Because we (including you) shop around for the cheapest deal, they are under pressure to keep those fees low, so they have to claw back costs wherever possible. And in this case, that particular fee is optional because you could get dropped off elsewhere or take a bus or whatever.
Don't assume that you are being ripped off just because there is a charge for something and you don't like being charged for things.
I wouldn't mind paying if the airport experience was pleasant but at Manchester it's not; the place is filthy and the staff, especially the Security staff, are a shower of miserable bullying jobsworth barstewards. Maybe that's just the NW England character, I dunno.
By contrast Schiphol is a joy to use and the Dutch always friendly, pleasant and efficient.
If you don't like paying get dropped of at one of the nearby hotels and walk.
Aren’t the charges more in line with not encouraging people to drive/drop off? It simply encourages people not to hang around a very busy and no doubt quite security conscious area.
Thats how I see it..
Less about topping up an income stream, more about quick movement of potential blockages.
🤷♂️

There's a free drop-off point by Jetpark 1. Shuttle bus about every 10 mins, works great. Unfortunately you can't do it in reverse, so they still ream you at arrivals.
Those bollards were ace when they first went in. I worked three floors up in Kings Court. There must have been two or three a week. You'd here an almighty bang followed by a cheer in the office and the scraping of chairs as we all rushed over to see who the bollards had claimed. Best one was a car getting over the bollard only for it to rise and rip the sump. Happy days 🙂 They even made the local BBC news.

I don't know but Audis do trigger other pricks, that's for sure, and the bitter / green eyed type usually.
