I own a couple of tools from the Stanley Fatmax range (impact driver, drill, etc) and like with most brands like that the batteries can be used across the range. I've just been looking at getting the Fatmax cordless electric strimmer but see they've a new version of the battery called V20, does anyone know if the older fatmax batteries are compatible with devices designed for the new v20 style battery? There is a lack of info about battery compatibility out there and on Stanleys website!
Found a number for Stanley and called them, old batteries arent V20 tool compatible. New V20 batteries can be used in older tools with an adaptor.
Thanks for that. Helpful for the future. I'm also told that both Black and Decker and DeWalt batteries are interchangeable (same parent company), but haven't tested this.

I would be surprised if that was true...
Nobody would buy the Dewalt batteries if cheaper ones fitted
Watch for charger compatibility as well as tool. Often the different fittings are deliberate to prevent chargers for one battery chemistry being used with batteries of another - often with li-ion batteries there’s communication between the battery and the charger to prevent overheating /fires and using an adapter might bypass that protection
