Expanding on the title. Where to buy stainless steel bar, 60mm diameter by 50mm long?

Everywhere I can find is either 500mm or 1m minimum order. Aluminium I can get as discs, in 10mm increments, but not stainless.

Any ideas or has anyone got any that can do me a favour?

Ta muchly.

Failing that buy a meter and sell the rest on ebay.

I've tried eBay. That's where the shortest lengths were available at 500mm. But for 60mm diameter the price was around £100. That's a lot to pay out and a lot to lose when it resells for a bargain price for someone else.

Try a local stockholder, Mine will sell however much you want.
Or try small engineering places. Have a look on parker steel
site.

Smiths metals. There may be a branch local to you. Go armed with some folding and ask if you can root around the scrap bin.

I should imagine the ebay sellers list bits at 500mm for convenience, a typical purchase. Have you tried just phoning them and asking for a shorter bit?

Look for a local non ferrous fabrication shop. Chances are they'll have some and be able to cut it to length for you, if it's a regular size. Stockholders such as Aalco (none ferrous specialists) might be able to help but at eye-watering prices.

If your in east Anglian metals direct are usually pretty good they deal in exotic metals mainly and have off cut stock so probably will have what you want there based in gorleston near between GT yarmouth and Lowestoft.

They supply me with my ferrous bronze and high grade stainless billet and bend over backwards to help.

Depends where you're based, look for precision engineers ( they normally turn bars ) or stockholders like aalco, metal supermarket, rightons, Richard Austins or a load of 1 off stockists. Most won't cut under a certain diameter, ranging from 2"-3", but it depends on circumstances.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. The only steel stockholders locally don't stock stainless. Only available as a special order. I've tried a few machine shops but nothing so far.

I've managed to find something suitable on eBay.

What's it for, as there are stacks of stainless steel grades, some of which almost aren't stainless or corrosion resistant, to some with are super expensive but very resistant. There are also other properties to consider that vary according to grade.

if it doesn't need to be exactly 60mm then ebay has a few people selling 2.5 inches (63mm)

Thanks again fellas. Those links look a bit more promising.

I'm after a piece of 304 for a coffee tamper base. I've got a lovely old Campagnolo hub to use as the handle.

Stevied. Hereford.
