...Or not. Depending on who you ask, it seems.

The question is:
Can they degrade and stretch causing mushy brakes like rubber ones can?

(Over a period of, say, 8 years?)

If the stainless braid is applied correctly - correct angles, tension etc then they should not give at all (or, very, very little in an MTB application).
Over time, that should hold true but there are so may variables - good method used when cutting / applying fittings, quality of materials used etc etc etc etc....

I used to work for one of the companies that make it (we supplied, presume they still do, Goodridge).
If it's really, really important you find out I can possibly track down my old mate who was in QA - he might be able to offer a more qualified answer....

No, not an MTB, hence chat forum.

It's an OE motorcycle line. I'm having brake problems and this is the only thing left to replace now....

I've got Goodridge braided lines on my race car and they've been on there at least 8-9 years and the pedal still feels as solid as when they were fitted.

What are the symptoms of your brake problems?

I can imagine the rubber inside might deteriorate. It's probably worth doing even if it's only so that mrs p doesn't have to get a lift with that nutter in a scenic every day.

Not wishing to push the point but didn't someone say it was more likely to be a poor bleed or your hoses than any of the other mech parts you replaced first.... 😆 😉

She posted on the 'worst car drivers' thread the other day, Peter. She sounded quite traumatised 😉
