I've recently had 2 new PNY SSD that I needed to format before attaching to my TV but neither of them can be seen in enclosures or HDD caddies. I've tried plugging them into 3 different PC's, both Win10 & 11, with no luck.
I know that both the caddy and enclosure are working as I've used them both in the last couple of weeks with old 2.5 HDD's but I'm seeing nothing at all with these new SSD's fitted.
Anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Or could it be that both the original & replacement are knackered?
Cheers.
Have you initialised the disk in Windows Disk Management?
I recently stuck a second SSD in my laptop and it wouldn't show up until I did that.
Windows Disk management is how you get it to be seen.
What do you mean by "seen"? An unformatted disk won't appear in Explorer because it's, well, unformatted.
As above, what does Disk Manager show?
Also,
What's the difference between a caddy and an enclosure, what have you got there?
Won't your TV format them? my LG TV does
Hi,
Thanks for your comments, I'll check the disk manager and see what it does there.
Re. the disk caddy/enclosure to me an enclosure us a portable case that you can fit a disk into and use it as an external drive whereas a caddy is a unit that you can plug 3.5 & 2.5 HDD's into as a kind of temporary dock for them. Hope that makes sense.
The instructions on my LG says the disk need to be formatted first, althoufgh I may trey that if I don't get anywhere with the disk manager.
By 'seen', I mean that it's not showing up when plugged in to a computer - no visibility at all, but I'd not tried the disk manager.

My Sony TV reformats them itself before it can use them. You can't format them on a different device. You also can't read them on a different device after formatting them on the TV. Obviously for copyright protection.
Good news, folks! The Disk Manager came up trumps and all is find & dandy now 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions!
