What can i used as an alternative, or do i have to buy the bolt/circlip combo?
Thanks
I've lost mine (two set of RE's over 4 years & Code R for a year) and the pin has not ever unscrewed itself/fallen out.
Either buy the genuine sram pads with replacement or, do what I've done, and lost them and not replaced. Had two sets of Elixirs without any for years and now Codes too
Either live dangerously without it (just add some thread lock), or get some split pins from Halfords (or other car parts shops).
The only downsides of split pins TBH is they can rattle. But they do the job just fine.
IIRC was it Shimano that supplied otherwise identical calipers with Deore and XT brakes, but the Deore came with split pins and the XT had screws?
Thanks, we have blue thread lock in the shed. Will this be strong enough?
Blue will be perfect. It's what's on caliper bolts and they attach the calipers to the frame.
Excellent 👍🏻
They are known as e-clips or kliprings, from what I read.
Available with bolt https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brakes/sram-elixir-code-guide-steel-disc-brake-pad-pin-kit-black/
When I lost one I measured the inner diameter of the clip as 1.98mm.
This might do but hasn't got the bend for ease of getting it off https://www.gwr-fasteners.co.uk/23mm-external-e-clips-din-6799---spring-steel-18636-p.asp
But not really needed anyway.
I just replaced a lost Shimano clip with a cable donut. If you is worried about the secruity of the bolt, gotta be the cheapest fix 🙂

I'm using these:

I’m using these:
We have possibly hundreds of these. I bought a plastic box of them, every time my son changed a battery over he would lose at least one. Thread lock is from the RC car repair shed also.
