The nearside front of my truck (ISUZU D-Max) has developed a squeak/creak. It's only one side. Having jacked the front up and tried to wobble the wheels, nothing is lose.
I took it to a local garage who very quickly said it's a bushing. £60 including fitting. I live in Thailand so that cost might be different to back home.
I do trust the garage as they diagnosed a dead headlight ballast that cost stupid money. However, they found a cut cable and instead charged me £5 to replace that instead.
I had to drive through knee height water / mud yesterday and since getting soaked, the creak's stopped.
So, my questions:
1) can the mechanic diagnose the fault in ten seconds by putting his head in the wheel arch while I bounce the front a few times with my body weight?
2) with the creak gone, can I pretend it was never there? It it dangerous? Can it damage anything more? There is nothing when driving that feels lose, broken etc.
Thanks
Wait till it comes back. Spray items selectively with WD40 until it comes back.
However, I've been guilty of neglecting bushings, just changed the ones on the roll bar on my van and it's turned it from a wobbly accident waiting to happen to a go cart 🙂
when does it squeek.....driving along , turning, hitting bumps ?
Thanks for the replies. It squeaks as the suspension compresses. I don't know if that means it's part of the suspension. It doesn't squeak just driving in a straight line. It doesn't squeak because of steering or wheel rotation.
Without being too technical, it's more of a creak than a squeak.
A blown damper perhaps?
Had one go on a Subaru Sumo back in the day, new damper sorted it.
It does sound like a bush which is worn. It goes quiet when it's wet as the water lubricates it for a while.
You can continue to drive the car for a while yet. When it finally fails it won't damage any other parts and then you can get it fixed.
