Has anybody discovered a reliable or decent way of finding people to play sports with other than biking? Looking for someone close enough to Kidderminster to play squash with on a regular basis but also not looking for a relationship! 😆

my Dad used to play and the local sports centre used to run a squash ladder in which you could challenge people however many places above you on it. Do such things not exist now?

It's finding a sport centre with a squash court these days ..lots of the local council run centres have given up the space to other uses ..

True, the glades in Kiddy used to have squash courts but since its been knocked down and moved to the Stourport Road the squash courts haven't been rebuilt.

i'd kind of assumed as you nominated squash as the game, that the venue wasn't so much of a challenge 😉

Nope defo prepared to move about it's just that not many leisure centres offer that sort of support any more. Local clubs do but they're an absolute fortune to join and even then people tend to already have 'partners' within them.

My local tennis club has various things going on, and it's not too expensive. They do open badminton nights as well, often seen as a bit more leisurely than squash, it's still a hell of a workout, especially if you're playing someone better than you.

Something like this locally to you, surely? then you'll meet folk of similar ability, and organise you own stuff.

My gym/club has an app where you can opt in to receive or send invites to other members and book courts etc. They also do various nights where you can just turn up giving you a chance to meet other people.

There's a local tennis club which my boyfriend is a member of and yes is very reasonable and they have mix in type stuff going on all the time. Local squash club which I did have membership with for a year (my dad paid) is £415!! and the last time I looked at Stourport it was more if not thereabouts the same!!

Gumtree has a sports teams and partners section. You can narrow it down by region: https://www.gumtree.com/sports-teams-partners There are a lot of football teams but plenty of other sports in there

Have a look on the county squash website for active clubs - I play in Hampshire & all the Hampshire leagues are online (mens/womens/vets) for you to see who has an active presence.

My club for example runs box leagues every month, above the box leagues is a ranking tower for us who play Hampshire leagues for ranking/challenges, etc. They do Sunday & Monday club nights, mid week group coaching, last Friday of the month socials etc.

I play Hants premier league & tend to only play a few guys in my club, that just seems to be the way it is - bit of match play, training sessions, etc.

Membership seems expensive, ours is £110 a year & pay for lights, even the most expensive, fanciest club in Hampshire (Winchester Tennis & Squash) isn't close to that much.

I'd have a look around - most places will let you do some taster sessions too. I'd avoid leisure centres too, the courts tend to be crap.

I have. I set up a Facebook group for local runners. We now have 8 of us from our village doing a weekly evening run.

When I was younger I played a bit but I only had 1 mate I could play squash with....anyone else absolutely ripped me apart so it was no fun. I found it tougher getting someone with a similar skill level to play against than finding somewhere to play.
